Chipped LCR and 330ci

Back from the dead
As good as I'm sure the BM's are to own, and folks at work have 330 / M3's so I've sampled the delights from a passenger perspective, I could just never bring myself to buy one even if I had the cash. Its the car that all reps aspired to have after they got their first proper promotion, and are as common here in the corporate car parks as Escorts were in the 80's. Generally driven by people who buy the badge rather than the car. Its the ONLY car I didn't look at when changing this time!

Although I am not offended by the M3 / 645Ci I couldn't buy one as I wouldn't want to be pigeon holed as arrogant as so many of them seem to be - forcing their way through against the flow of traffic with their fog lights on at dusk. How a car can so easily ruin people when they get behind the wheel of one astounds me. Generalising a bit I know but...

That aside, I'm hard pressed to say an modded LCR would stick on an M3 with a competant driver - the 330 no probs - but as has been said - different ball park price wise for M3 - different league of car. Gobbing off is one thing, and I know there is a tendency on here to think the the LCR moves faster than the tardis, but you can only wisely settle it on the track when you run what you brung. Even if the BM was quicker I'd still be here with SEAT because I don't have pretentions that a badge buys me an extra inch on my spam javelin!!!

Bit disappointed to see the a thread that starts out with some friendly banter then becomes a total slanging match for some. I'd take the fact that someone is comparing their 30k+ car to the R as compliment to the R.

Would like to see moderators step in when it starts getting silly and remind people what this forum is about.

Alex.

Yeah i am. I figure if i WANTED to spend half the money and buy a 'SEAT', then i could, but no thanks. I think thats a little unfair to basically say that because i spent more money i should be expecting huge performance. I value comfort, looks, refinement, handling, residuals, build quality, being able to pick up ladies :D etc as well , all of which are lacking in the Seat IMO.

Capperoalex : I agree with what your saying, but when he quoted the above quoted he wasn't just questioning the prowess of the SEAT car, but the type of person owning one. I don't doubt it was a bear bait to some extent, but even still if you are going to basically say 'well actually you're cars pretty average, and for driving them so must you be' you're going to expect some fighting talk when you do it in the associated forum!!! Even still we should know better than to rise to it!

My take was that it was a bit tongue in cheek after already having being shot at with some nasty comments - could acuse him of rising to the bait I guess. In any case, best to keep things in check.

My neighbour had a 330Ci Sport up until a year ago, and now has an M3. We went out in each others cars. He was impressed with the R. I was impressed with the 330, particularly the straight six / rear drive combination, and the quality. Horses for courses. No need to start calling people w@n*ers etc.

TO be honest it's all down to personal preference, if someone wants a BMW then buy one same goes for the Leon, I dont think there is any need to sl*g one another off just because there is a difference in opinion.

I think both cars are cracking and would love a 330ci or even a M3, the only thing that put me off was how many 330' s I kept seeing plus the leon is alot more tunable! :D

200 BHP per tonne, after that it's all down to driver skill!!

A competition grade driver in an LCR will wipe the floor with probably 99% of M3 drivers in their 'ultimate driving machines', but most of us aren't competition grade!! ;)

I don't see anypoint in ramming 300+ BHP into a front wheel drive car because at the end of the day it just can't put down the power anywhere except for a motorway, in a straight line!!

Bottom line guys, rear wheel drive will always win out when you hit the twisties, as long as there's a competent driver behind the wheel!!

Having said that though, you've got to love the LCR!! :)

m0rk - nothing wrong with willy waving, if you are into that sort of thing ;)
It's when you start acting like a willy head and start personal attacks on people by calling them w@n*ers etc that I object to.

I can't help it if people spot they drive BMW's :D

(that's a joke)

clearly nobody actually wants to cause offence, but it's just the stereotype that has been gained by more than a couple of BM drivers lack of indicator stalks & permanent fog lamp use that *might* have caused that

It's not like we call vern that even tho he's crossed the line, but if we do then he knows it's a joke because of the above. - maybe the BMW flame baiting drivers should expect that too when they come on a SEAT forum?

I am curious why a BMW driver even registers on a SEAT forum, to make his first post, I own a 330ci and it is faster than a Leon Cupra R post????

You dont see me going to a BMW forum and saying I own an Ibiza and its faster than an X5, 325i etc etc.

or

Focus RS or any other car that has tried to give me a "spirited drive" but lost

He probably is a shemale from Taiwan, who is 12 years old, and doesnt own a car and just wanted to flame a forum, or a BMW driver...

who I must admit can never take being overtaken. even if they were doing 40mph in a 60. They just go mental and start trying to overtake in silly places or accelerate when u overtake them to close the door, small willy complex i think :)

Guess I shouldn't have posted this in Scoobynet then:

"I have a Cupra R. I think it has advantages over the WRX in most areas, except the 4-wheel drive and the awesome ability of the WRX's suspension to cope with crappy road surfaces. Mid range acceleration is better than the WRX, and I had a drag race with a '53 STi this morning to quite a high speed (private road of course) and it was neck and neck (I caught him slightly unawares from the lights, and got a car length in front, which probably cancelled out the 4-wheel drive launch advantage). Not had the R chipped yet, but certainly thinking about Revo.

Great forum guys."

have to disagree there its not hard to floor it in a straight line so most people could do that and if both cars are standard the m3 would win without doubt, and now for round the bendy stuff well dont forget the m3 has 50/50 weight distribution and is rear wheel drive which = bloody good handling, the LCR is FWD and sorry to say it will not keep with the m3 if both driven properly, im not being biased as i have a LCR im just being realistic, hence the price difference between the cars, obviosly you can chip a LCR to go quicker ect. but you can do so to the m3 aswell but you will get alot more bhp from the m3 engine for sure :)

My car keys have never picked up ladies for me...and when I used to drive Mercs I used to hide them in my pockets.

I'm not interested in any girl who talks to me purely based on what car I drive.;)

My good looks and charm can 'pull' just about any girly really...(I use the term pull loosely as I'm married and so I work within very tight guidelines imposed by myself)..but I can certainly have enjoyable interesting evenings talking to girlies without having to swing a BMW keyfob around.
If thats all it takes then just buy a MERC keyring..then for £7.50 you would still be able to pull even fitter women wouldn't you?
I used to have a Cupra 20vt chipped to 210bhp and I never had a 330i leave me behind in that...330d's were easy prey even the newer 204bhp ones.
