It's a shame that BMW's drivers are so much up their own arse.

I used to work with a guy who had a 330CI and it's slower than the standard coupe because of the extra weight, guess to stop the scuttle shake !

His car was slightly faster than mine when std, but now would be a different story.

Oh and he paid £38k for his car (sat nav/tv etc..), and he reckoned he could sell it for the same after one year :w4nk:

He also really wanted an M3, but didn't get one because the service costs were so much more expensive, but still nice to have a car that's based on the Escort convertible!

I sat in the back of it once (with the roof down  ) and it was so cramped I was glad to get out of it.

It really make me laugh when he came back to work from a really nice sunny weekend his face was a bright as a beetrout, except for the outline of his sunglasses!

you must be ever so happy with your double the price motor now..

I would be. Rear wheel drive, sumptuous interior and great build quality with a nice in line six.

Love Leons, but come on, open your eyes :)

Build quality , the things are assembled in South Africa.... :roflmao: as most if not all 3 series besides the m3.

You talk as though South Africa is a third world nation :) I have never sat in any BMW and thought "shoddy". I find the LCR quite nice too, although the seats are somewhat dull and I got wet feet ;)

Remember, you lot dont know what car I have and making any assumptions would be wrong - I am truly unbiased! ;)

I have no doubt that if you throw enough cash at a Seat you can get a lot of performance out of it, but I would personally rather have the refinement and engineering of an M3 than a 380 bhp front wheel drive hatcback. Bear in mind that for 12k you can end up with a 520+ bhp R32, so just remember that the 1.8T lump from VAG is not the only engine in the world that can be modified :)

What, with the huge amount of BMW drivers that there are in here to provide a good quality representative sample?

I saw that if you are a typical seat driver, which it seems you are not, then all Seat drivers are ******s.

I like your logic, its very easy to apply

The big car factories in SA namely MERC, BMW, VW,TOYOTA, NISSAN and OPEL (Vauxhall) have all had quality problems. Due to labour unrest, Merc at one stage was considering packing up shop and leaving. I did contract work for MERC and VW in east London (SA not UK), so I am well aware of the problems they had. The golf MK4 between 1999 and 2000 was particularly bad an export to the UK I would not touch with a barge pole. SA is not third world but it is second world. I lived there for 30 years. :D

M3 is a lovely car no question, automotive classic.

i would agree that the m3 is engineered and designed to handle the power far better than any modified lcr ever could and is probably a far more rewarding car to drive hard. You can spend loads of money modifying any car to make it faster than a supercar but is it going to be as reliable and easy to live with as a car designed by the manufacturer to have that performance. I dont think so

quality per pound the seat leon cupra/r wins hands down, the m3 is a differnet motoring class so shouldnt be compared as such, rwd prestige car versus sporty family hatch isnt on. measure the 320,323 325 4 and 5 doors versions and tell me the ride is as rewarding as a motor such as the m3 designed for out and out performance.
spend 17k on either a brand new cupra r or on a fairly used 3 series and i think the comparison would find new arguments ie seat still has full warranty etc bmw might have a dealers year maybe two tops.

Slightly OT, but I've seen two M3 drivers recently floor it from a standing start and both times, the car sounded absolutely sh*t. There was some kind of rattle from the rear-end (exhaust or something) and they both sounded like something was going to fall off :-o Are they all like this ?

....nice popping sound when they changed gear though!!!

same here, like the exhaust is vibrating. bit odd... heard it a couple of times myself.

and as far as the comments about bmw drivers being ******s, give the guy(s) a break.. he (and all other drivers, bmw or not) are entitled to their opinion, thats what a forum is for, not for calling people names.

back on track, i had a race with a 330i last week over a 2 mile stretch from standing, and the 330i was a *little* faster than my LCR , but then i'm not chipped/etc. he was a lot faster off the line, but then managed to keep a standard distance from him while accellerating to *** mph...

An M3 will pull cleanly away no problems from the chipped LCR, i just don't get this LCR v 330 or M3 thing at all. RWD and sharper handling to start with on the BM. If we all drove in straight lines we'd crash into trees, walls and other objects, the straight line acceleration thing has only one place and that's the 1/4 mile track.

You would need to be in a seriously seriously modded LCR to keep up with a M3 on any road, unless it's a poor driver in the M3.

Oh and the M3 sounds sooooooooo much better than the blown 4 cylinder, anyone that tells you different either needs a hearing test or just hasn't listened to one for real. The 4 pot is far from tuneful by comparison

This is kind of what I was alluding to. Unfortunately, most specific car forums have the best cars on them which makes it hard to get an objective opinion, although there seems to be plenty on here ;)

I think that the LCR and 3 series coupes are targetted at different people and they are both better cars because of it. I am just wishing that some manufacturers would bring out some rear wheels drive hatches :)

I nearly bought a 323i but my mate thankfully talked me out of it, he said " you'll just look like a wanky bank manager " :w4nk: and he should know he had a bmw and he's a bank manager!...............and a wee bit of a w*nnker.

this makes me laugh, in another thread i kinda got shot down for comparing a 182 to a LCR, now tonight its ok to compare a LCR to a M3.
lets be honest, the M3 is in a different league to the LCR, not just a different class. i also find a ******s a ****** no matter what car he drives. not all BM drivers buy the marque for the badge.

oh and as an aside, even though i know you were fishing, lets be honest, i havent known any women to be pulled by a car since i was about 16.

I dont think a woman would get pulled by a car more by the fact that its a display of wealth. and were not talking rubbishy old m3's and that ilk here& certainly not a 330- think more ferrari and lamboghini etc..
