For me personally, the cost to do hybrid/big turbo is more than the gains offer, and I would argue the same for head work and other mods. At the end of the day, the Leon/Golf achilles heel is getting the power down. Sure, after 80mph you are going places, but wheelspin in 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear does no favours to power delivery, performance or drivetrain components.

This is one of the reasons I will be refraining from screwing with my new car.

The traction IS indeed an issue, but if you worry about a hybrid, then what
is a BT owner supposed to say ?

That is exactly the reason i went on improving the engine instead of slapping a bigger turbo on.Yes you don't get TONS of power, but you reliability goes up tenfold, and if you are planning on keeping the car,
it's the best investment!!

It's like the car should have been from the factory if it had 400 bhp stock...

Simple as that. ;)

Well you hit on something there that highlights my point.

DanGB on here has a GT2871 car with over 400bhp (genuine 400bhp), and from 50-115bananas, my car was fully ahead of his when they ran together. In fact, it was way past that I was being reeled in after my head start gained due to having less lag/wheelspin. Both cars were fully fitted with handling mods and LSD's.

I would estimate that you would need to be way clear of 100mph and pulling to see a noticeable difference between a K04 car and a BT car. Until we start seeing real people in hybrid cars and the results from them, all the hybrid turbo talk is heresay.

In my experience, I tend not to spend much time above at speeds where you would notice a Hybrid K04 over a K04 due to lack of legal places to do it, and the legal places that exist would not get you much past 100mph very often (straights at Knockhill)

As for the dyno, there are dyno's all over the world.

Some measure high, some measure low.

The TTRS suggestion is a good one.I think i'll try that.

BTW if you look at the vortex there are a few K04 cars that manage mid 12 sec in the 1/4 mile, right next to BT 3071R kits....That should be saying something.

Also you mention you change the compression ratio. now correct me if im wrong that is pretty far from bolt on territory, and iirc requires new pistons etc, so its not really comparable to a standard block anymore. You should be able to advance the timing for more torque though with a lower compression

Maybe, but I reckon I would have cracked 116mph more like!

Ended up driving the factory standard MK2 Leon Cupra R that day more than I drove my own car, just as the new tyres had a rough skin on them as I only got a half dozen runs in my own car!

We will never know what could have been now though as the car is gone :(

Well that's true but remember the early cars had higher compression from the factory.Mine has 10.5:1 already, so i can't say much about that.VW lowered compression on the newer engines for reliability reasons, and also cause it wasn't a requirement since they stopped using stratified mode.That was also the reason the piston shape was changed.Older cars also have forged factory pistons, the later ones have cast (dunno about the S3/Cupra ones though).

As far as advancing timing and all that mumbo jumbo...U.S. tuners see things a bit differently.You could agree with them...i don't.Maybe its because i am not looking to get a gazillion HP from a 2 liter engine, or maybe cause i've seen otherwise with my car.What you definitely need though is GOOD QUALITY GAS.It all starts from there.K04 cars in Europe make more than their U.S. counterparts (of course no U.S. tuner is gonna accept that), and the reason you see W/M being used so extensively in the U.S. is JUST THAT.Most of the high HP results you see across the pond are either with W/M or race gas.

Lowering compression takes a lot of efficiency out of an engine, and trying to compensate with boost and timing isn't the best solution ESPECIALLY when you are using a smaller turbo that can't cope with that.Yes, if you have a GT35, and you wanna make 600 hp with 91 gas by all means...You don't want the engine exploding on you.But for European conditions, lowering compression is not the best choice (my opinion at least)

One car I am looking forward to seeing at S2+ is the Golf R20T DSG. All the power and ability to transfer it to the road along with lightning gearchanges. I also believe the forthcoming RS3 will have a DSG option too.

Will also be interesting to see how their clutches and tranny's hold up ;)

One car I am looking forward to seeing at S2+ is the Golf R20T DSG. All the power and ability to transfer it to the road along with lightning gearchanges. I also believe the forthcoming RS3 will have a DSG option too.

s3 comes with dsg already though and RS3 is gonna be dsg only.

stock dsg TTRS did the 1/4mile in 12.2 secs :-o

Yeah the S3 has DSG option, but the set up on the Golf and S3 is different as memory serves.

The most power I can believe a Stage 2+ car has is 386bhp and that is Blades old car (now owned by a chap called Lee, don't know what his username is).
I went to see this in the metal last night at a meet and yeh it probs does have that amount of power. This is the highest horespower Stage 2+ car that is on this forum, and on any forum I have been on...
APR are the only company I know of to make use of the Schrick cams developed for this engine, and they only incorporate that into their heavily built Stage 4 Dubai engine with GT28RS turbo (see Poko's thread).
And again, unless your using custom software then there is also no readily available software to make use of extensive headwork...
400bhp, at this point in time, is not possible without at least doing something to the turbo.

That engine probably would make 400bhp on the standard K04 but why the hell would you bother...?!?!

You have absolutely no clue what has been done to my car, as much as it seems you have no clue that APR is using a GT2871R turbo and not a GT28RS (which is not that larger than a K04 btw).
Also, your price quote on APR's engine work seems to be coming more out of APR's marketing department rather than real life.It seems you need to spend less time reading the BS that comes out every day in the forums by companies trying to make a profit, and more time actually doing something to your car, if you wanna come out and throw horsepower predictions about stuff you don't know.

So please enlighten us all on your engine and how to get an "easy" and with "a few tweaks" this 420hp or just stop boring us with your pafetic riddles!
