Correct, it was a (dutch) release from 2016, cant remember which build exactly but it was pretty old. Your uploaded overall file worked instantly with the new map updates without requiring the stock maps that came with the carThat explains it your release was sometime between 2015 - 2018 but not 1030 and beyond. Glad that worked.

There were some post 2019 Seats where they had abandoned Mapcare. Possible yours might be one of those. That's why they sell those cards for people who don't have computer skills or the card is damaged or lost. You can study your navigation FeCs to see whether you have one of these lucky late productions cars.I take it I could just buy an updated SEAT Nav SD card like this and avoid a lot of fiddling about.. 2023 was the last release in November 2022. The 2023 isn't year.... it just happens. There will be a June release at some point.
Be aware of the overall.nds file from your existing SD you will need it. Copy it across. It's all in the link and above.
There was s small group of cars circa 2019 that had lifetime navigation FeCs, end of production. A new card generally means the overall.nds trick unless it was in that group. 2018 woundl not be. Sellers say anything about speed cameras. EBay you can get the 32gb cards from. Good seller based on rating etc. You then put latest maps on plus your old overall.nds on it.
Sadly mine isnt one of those. I checked the FEC swap installed codec.
If you aren't travelling across Europe you can use one of the zones but other than that and you want the lot it's the 32GB VAG card, Skoda, Seat or VW all interchangeable you still need your overall.NDS file or you use the rescue routine covered.

Answer your last question the map cards have a CID on them that identifies them to the VAG group so they get income when bought. Ordinary SD cards won't work in the unit unless the firmware is hacked. Retrofitters offer that service but probably safer not to bother. Stick to the VAG cards. The cards are really sold as replacement, they would be plug and play on VW and Skoda but not on Seat where Seat sold Mapcare in Europe but not in the UK. The premise was by some you sold your car if you wanted new maps. . It was Exciter's work back in 2017 that sorted the mib2 standard out. It's found across all Seat boards now. It was bizarre that Seat UK didn't make the maps user updateable the same as VW and Skoda. They were given maps for the life of mib2.

TELLYour best bet I reckon is get the latest maps installed using the links above and either use the SCDB commercial camera database or use the PocketGPSWorld one using Poinspector to generate the cars upload of them, if you want speed camera warnings as wrll. The other solutions on the cameras is that you don't know the quality of the data that is being used and what exactly is in them. Poinspector came into its own when VW took down their web page but in German way of doing it. That was withdrawn when mib3 came out, no legacy way of importing user POIs was left for mib2 although the maps are still published.
As I said on the user POI upload thread there are no published speed camera locations in the UK. People who build this data take them from crowd sourcing or scrape them from other databases which are patchy like Google and Here Maps. Those two are crowd sourced but not at the level of PocketGPSWorld. The SCDB ones are probably scraped with cross checking, whilst the PocketGPSWorld ones are crowd sourced. Scraping is problematic if they are Swiss cheese like ones. Speed partnership organisations in some places publish where mobile speed checking will take place. May not cover the police handheld ones. Those publication's that I've seen are monthly.
There is a difference also between fixed locations and mobile ones. The mobile ones in PocketGPSWorld seem to be good but also include speed monitoring warning radar signs, not cameras, which probably by implication means hand held devices are used there as well. I have seen the police out at these location but note on strips of road speed cameras are put in the PocketGPSWorld ones as fixed when they are mobile. The categorisation isn't always correct in the PocketGPSWorld ones. You need both categories installed that way you are covered by the crowd sourced warnings.
Reality with all of this you are better off with a car with TSR in it if worried about speeding since it's monitoring signage and digitised road speeds all the time. I find it pretty good. People moan about false positives, these I find rarely in the UK. If they use lane assist turned on, false positives from TSR will apply the brakes. I use TSR with lane assist off preferring to drive the car than the automation taking you thru UK pot holes. It only works well on marked up white lined roads.
