Id like to go as far as i can without needing to risk rod damage. Dont want or have time to strip the engine for forged internals as its my daily driver.
I think it needs to stay sub 300hp before rod damage occurs. Is this right?

It's a common debate and the quality of the map is paramount in the life expectancy of the 1.8t internals.
Spikey, torque laden maps kill these engines very quickly and the conrods are very well renowned for going all banana like when in the realms of 300bhp.

I'll probably stop with the bolt ons now then whilst its at a safe level.
And book it in at badger5 later in the year.
Thanks again for your priceless advice 👍

My car Maxed out on fuel pump first.
Did upgrade. Another Dyno and then the injectors were maxed and so added 550 injectors
Then another tweak and another run.
Car has more to give but stopped at 283brake and very near 300lbs so Bill stopped fiddling.
Time has come to push on abit more so rods are now on the cards.
Will see where they get me to with a mani fitted too.
Then when bored of that power it’ll have to be an 064 conversion.

Badger5 Custom Map + TIP,
3”Custom exhaust, FMIC, Bosh 550’s, BC Coilovers, ARB’s +loads more.

Interesting. My first dyno run showed a peak torque of 309ft-lb, then Bill toned it down to 294.
@Sparkie - you'd better get your wallet forged too - the hold the large amounts of cash you're gonna need for your next mods. :)

Good figures.
When I put a new downpipe and decat on it gave me 13 brake and 20 lbs on its current map which took my torque to its max.
So we couldn’t wind it up any more.
Yeah not cheap from here on in.
Apparently Benjamin Parsons
( another dope VW Audi group tuner )will do the rods and map for just over a grand. With a map thrown in too it’s seriously good value.
I’ll be checking the facts of this pretty soon but it sounds like a great deal to me.
Then will just need a mani.
But that may be sorted via a pal who’s offered me his. Result.

Shame you cant do rods without taking the head off ...or can you
I've definitely heard of people doing them from below, God knows how you'd compress the rings properly though plus clearance around the crankshaft would be stupidly tight.

I cant see how its possible tbh.
BUT...... are they a fully floating gudgeon pin?
Drop the rod out whilst leaving the crown in the bore?
Impossible, surely.

Yeah maybe that's how it's done, either way it's taking short cuts which is not something that interests me when you're talking about potentially scrapping your engine.

Agreed.
If i were planning on doing rods, id want to be doing rings aswell.
Theres a bit more to it than just nuts n bolts.

Whoever drives a black LCR with the reg S999 LCR in Brighton, that was me giving you the thumbs up today - probably would have made more sense if I hadn't been walking and actually driving my Leon.

I have a mate I was on track with who’s a mech.
He did his from underneath.
But as has been said. There’s a couple of extras I’d want changing in there too.

Despised drivers door lock module replaced, it managed to do the following.

i) Randomly unlock doors and wind down the windows, especially when it was pi55ing with rain in the middle of the night. (failed microswitch)
ii) Not report the door as opened, so random locking and alarm hassles, and no lights (another failed microswitch)
iii) Door deadlocks even with the battery disconnected (no idea doesn't matter as I've smashed the f**k out of the damned thing.

German over complicated design, made in france.
What could possibly go wrong?

4 of the 5 micro switches duff, seized motor, yup, DOA.

Opening the door lock module sweepstake,

can anyone guess how long to the next enraging lock failure?

Previous period of cooperation was two weeks.
