Nice of you to pop round tom, R32 was looking clean, i think iwas the only one letting the side down with a dirty car.
Hopefully when finished mental = good fun

Couple of answers for the questions you posted earlier.

The S3 propshaft should be fine, it's the TT ones that are shorter.....like what i have.
And the haldex is controlled via the canbus system via the abs ecu not the engine ecu.

How you planning on cutting it ? Plasma or grinder etc.

Cheers for the knowledge insert graham
Just been out and had a look with Phill at the S3 especially the ABS unit.
I assume the ECU for this is inside the unit itself??
I know a few of the the ports would need to be larger to suit the enlarged piping for the brembos.
But other than that if this unit is swapped out into a LCR is it a self regulating and controlling unit = working haldex?
I think i'm going to look at getting a plasma/tig welder as plasma cuts although rougher finishing are much more manouvreable and easier and dont remove as much material.
Then just a tickle over with a grinder to get it nice and ready for fitting
Anything else i should look at??

I thought there was a abs ecu unit seperate, not the abs unit itself.... Need to have a look into it.
I think thats were the haldex wiring plug goes back to.

For the cutting i would recommend a plasma. Cut roughly round the bits you need the drill out the spot welds with a proper spot weld bit and remove the left overs, you need to think the job out in your head and work out which panels to drill - you don't want to remove spot welds on both parts and end up with holes in the panels. The aim is to have holes in one side to weld through and solid the other side.

This week end most of the front and head will come off so i should be able to see a little more and maybe give you a definite answer on the control
I wont be doing any cutting until i got pretty much just an empty shell and i will be having a good think before a torch goes anywhere near it
So you plasma'd roughly the bits then drilled the welds out to give you an OE panel
This S3 seems to have every panel with a part number heavily stamped in making easy to identify what it is

Just going on what Graham was saying about the seperate ECU for the Haldex, i was wondering if the ECU you found in the car is the Haldex one?? and the cars ECU is where ours is, under the scuttle panel.

I think the (ECM) as they call it must also control the haldex as it requires inputs from throttle position sensor and engine speed sensor are required which i would assume is only acquired from main ECU.
I will need the different ABS controller from the S3 though
I may keep the ECU until i know for definite whats required, been on vagcat for ages trying to see if the leons ECU is the same as the S3 or just find part numbers.

I would keep the loom from the inside of the car (it's split into sections) - or at least the part that goes back to the abs ecm (or what ever you call it ??) and the abs ecm.

I don't think the main ECU has anything to do with the haldex.

I couldn't be arsed sourcing all the stuff / figuring it all out so i'm just gonna put a mechanical set up on mine from sqs with a handbrake release that i can wire into a switch to have it fully engaged 50/50 or off.

I have also looked into the manual controllers as i also plan to do this but i think SQS items etc were replacements for the actual haldex controller on the rear diff itself
The ABS controller looks to be just a hydraulic unit so will require electronic signals to control
That pic shows input of handbrake, ESP control,Brake light switch (so foot brake use) and handbrake activation for control of ABS unit.
I can see the weekend being lots of tracing cables
I think i need to email Danny@INA as he changed his 2wd drive golf to 4wd so he might have a few answers
