Today I decided I needed to get this broken MC nipple piece out. A made access as easy as possible but was still not good to get to. Armed with my brand new square easy outs I finally managed to find something to turn this and oh oh, bend the tip of my easy outs.
Round 2
Threaded easy outs, this worked better but the ability to turn this with something sucked. I got a good hold of it but couldn't turn it.
Job for another day.
Onto the cam cover
I removed everything I needed to, popped out the spark plugs, set the crank sprocket to TDC and checked the exhaust valve sprocket mark, this is 1 tooth forward of TDC, strange. I need confirmation on the proper placing of this as I believe its supposed to be a tooth back from TDC?
All looked well to an untrained eye. There was the slightest piece of hard crusted oil in the leading edge but apart from that all looked well.
The bottom of the cam cover looked like this before cleaning:
And this after soaking and scrubbing:
The gaskets were in good shape but with the slightest of oil staining at one corner, the leading edge.
The reason for taking this off is to change the VVT gasket as its been leaking for like about 4 years. No joke, lol
This looks like a straight enough VVT sensor off, change gasket, VVT sensor replace, well hopefully anyway.
I replaced the cam cover studs. Initially I was going to get cave man with a pipe wrench to remove these but thought better of it.
I have my boost gauge winging its way to me from a fellow member on here. I have a day off from the car tomorrow but back at it on Friday/Saturday/Sunday.
First off will be the VVT sensor, then the gauge stuff, then onto prepping for the timing belt change.
I hope to be in a position to be changing the timing belt out early next week.

Can you order that hose on the left hand side of the bay that goes around the charge pipe to intercooler hose

That hose is a 180 degree hose with a one way valve in it.
The hose was off an ebay seller and so was the one way valve.
All I did was cut into the 180 degree hose to fit the one way valve

Nothing much, the money I need to spend on this project is more needed on our daily just now.
It needs a clutch and flywheel soon and needs two tyres now. Clutch and flywheel including fitting will be £1,000+, tyres about £200.
Going to try and do what I can on the Leon before having to buy new bits to progress.
Motivation is very low just now

Is this on the A4? Clutches are common on the 2.0TDIs.

Willie you sound like i did over the winter. its not cool. But i am back with vengence now so watch this space. If your wanting a hand with anything give me a shout. i have access to a car ramp in fraserburgh, if there are any fiddly jobs.
There very common to go. Audi revised the software to chill out the acceleration in first gear as many clutches and flywheels were getting destroyed

Have u tried giving GSF a call they normally sell Lucas Clutch Kits for VAG Cars at a reaonable price.
