There are 2 specifications on these cages and also lots of accessories.
There's a Cold Drawn Steel (CDS) one and T45 Steel one. The T45 is more expensive but lighter.

The installation is the big cost.


Also If I did get it done I'd want to do it right with gussets on the windscreen frame and B pillars.

With a seat well strengthening too you can see how the costs rise to really any figure you can afford.

But for the one I was wanting I'm looking at £2,500 all told.
I would only fit this if I was 100% sure I was going to be racing

The large Mikalor clamps are 68-73mm for intercooler pipes

This is how I've been running the vacuum feed to the brake MS.

Got the car back together today and started it.
Not a nice few seconds of very dodgy noises till the oil pump primed itself and started getting oil around the engine, but after about 3 seconds it all sounded good again.

I've got a garage sorted out so will be moving the car and tools up this weekend.
So before the weekend I'll get the new tyres on the car and swap out the not so legal ones.
Also will get the alignment done and car weighed, finally.
the cars not at its lightest just now but will weight the removed bits from now on to work out the final weight.

good to hear you getting a shot of a garage...will beat working on it in the carpark!
Yup, but have manage a lot in said car park.

Wish I could find a garage close by me!

What about a bolt-in OMP cage Willie ... you're only doing trackdays for fun, not competing in the BTCC! :D
It's the one I'm leaning to more unless I'm sure I'm going to be racing.
The garage I'm going to be using is 45 minute drive, depending on the rate of travel ;)

Engine bay mechanical spring clean and tidy up

As this car has always been function over form I have done some pretty rough things, but this took the biscuit.

So all looking a bit more professional now.

All the parts used in this are pictures a few pages back for anyone not keeping up with this change out.

For all the engine bay anal people, you know who you are, lol.

I still have to lift the cam cover and change out the VVT sensor gasket. Once this is doen the engine bay will get a spruce up.
Still to do in the engine bay;

Fit light weight battery
Adjust the cone with 45 degree elbow and Touring car scoop
Change VVT sensor gasket
Timing belt
Run feeds to cone from fogs
Fit oil cooler and thermostatic sandwich plate
Buy and fit bonnet pins
Fit oil temperature and pressure gauge feeds
Fit boost gauge feeds
Get well fitted to DP for AFR gauge

I thought I was almost finished too, not to worry, moving into garage this weekend

Started up the car and all running well BUT
Brakes are well spongy :( FECK !!!

I think its the MC. It's not leaking out of the snapped nipple.
Think I'm going to try bleeding the ABS with VAGcom and see how I get on from there.
I really don't want to have to remove the MC or have to bleed out through this broken nipples.
Play stopped for today as too cold and windy and canna be arsed with this

Not had much of a chance to get on with this recently.
I've been putting all my efforts into getting some garage space which was successful.

So spent the weekend tiding this out in preparation for the car and tools.
Its a perfect garage with a house to gain access to facilities.
I'm not going to say where the garage is but the people who need to know do or can text me to find out.
So, today I have booked my wheels in to get a buckle taken out and tyres swapped out.
One wheel was buckled in a pot hole this winter, thankfully the R888's didn't get damaged.
Also today will hopefully see me getting the brakes bled and legal tyres on ready to move the car to its new home for a month or so.

Yup, the work scope has just increase too.
Would only manage to carry out the full job in a garage anyway.
Now going to.change out the brake Master Cylinder as doing like to have something so important not at full capacity.
Also I think this need bled and currently don't want to mess about with this where the car is.

So once the cars in the garage the full front end will be off and maybe engine out too.
I feel this is going to end up in as a HUGE project.

Engine oot sounds like a decent bit of project :D I take it you've seen the guides about undoing the front panel and swinging it to the side so you don't have to degas the aircon?

Early days yet, but will have a look on VWVORTEX prior to doing anything.
Also.get the Haynes now too.

PLENTY of good guides on the tex if it needs to come to that stage.

I've ordered a newer version of Elsawin, should be here this week ;)

Craig, you were right.
I still have my aircon, Sean doesn't.
Nice and cool for this brilliant summer were hopefully going to get.
 
there is some weight in all the stuff i had removed.
just in the compressor alone there must me a good 10-15kg, then theres the radiator and the pipework.
reckon i've saved at least 25-30kg at a guess. unfortunately i don't have a set of scales to weigh them on lol.

you gonna get one of these 3" TIP from badger5 willie or are you happy with things powerwise???
