Whats caused the seizure? Bearing collapse? Thermally related??
If its bearings i have loads of various sizes at work you could use as a stop gap just balancing issues

LOL Bill Is there anything you like you dont sell? This was Recommended by Backdraft this are the filter they use on all their cars. (Apparently)

Lee i wasn't saying bigger was better :stick: merely pointing out how much bigger it is than the Jetex, I will be doing logs as well, funny thing i logged the car with my LC de screened ally maf holder and then changed to a screened LCR Maf and lost 27BHP??? (With the Jetex) so now de- screened the LCR maf and put the Piper on so we will see what it does.

simply put no i dont sell stuff i dont like, dont trust, and know to not work. simples.

foam filters in my experience allow dust ingress, and having suffered engine damage historically because of this i dont touch foam filters.

and as for "loss", determined how? airflow?
if messing with screen and descreen, dont get duped into thinking the readings are real when descreened..

blue piping is a stop gap while i work on something [b)] that may have to wait now, i have found the reason for the drop in bhp well it was probably a symptom of what eventually happened, i went out this morning to log the changes and no boost, came home and found the turbo seized solid :censored: So that's that. As mentioned before i was planning on getting the turbo re-built and it would have been by now if the buyer of my s3 recaro's hadn't backed out, so that's the next thing i need to do is sell them and then get the turbo rebuilt.
Any one want a set of leather s3 recaro's?

ah doh!!!

Dont know to be honest, not bearings, as its not ball raced, it was passing a bit of oil so my guess is oil related so thermal failure  i did two runs both down on air flow, parked up to look at the logs when i drove back home i noticed i wasn't boosting, when i got home i found a split hose (hence the blue hose) so put the lack of boost down to this, i replace the split hose checked vag-com...no faults, went out next day as i said and still no boost, then found the problem.

aye along those lines.. although next to that video is this one> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThmW2SW1I-k&NR=1 which makes the case for their foam being better... and in the 30sec test it did stop the dust..

My personal experience of 3 manufacturers of foam filters is over time ~(more than 30 secs as per the video, lol) is dust does migrate thru the filters (dry ones) and I feel "gritty" oily residue by the maf sensor and intake pipe, as dust/grit has clearly passed thru the filter to get there.. This dust/debris damaged my valve seats on a previous engine (not 20vt) following using foam filters.. Never again. Hence not supplying them

I asked Pipercross to comment on how well their foam filters perform, and what they said was that in MIRA testing, their triple foam achieved a 99.06% efficiency and an OEM Motorcraft paper filter was 98.95%, they sent me the MIRA report as well as other test results. More info on the air filter thread I started.

I don't think anyone has anything to worry about running a Pipercross filter.

(worth noting alot of the tests on foam filters shown were on single or double layer foam, not triple)

Well the turbos off and on its way to CRT for a re-build, it will be being rebuilt with larger turbine to make it freer flowing, flow being the GT2X's main restriction, my INA hi flow mani has a crack in it :censored: not really a suprise but still dissapointing, i have ported my original mani and put that back on. Just need to wait for the turbo to come back now and then stick it back on. :D

their paneil filters allowed dust in... I have seen that myself. gritty oily residue on the intake pipe. typical of my own experience of foam filters. different constructions perhaps, so not all created equal

over time, and time is the key here I think, is the dirt migrates thru.

So a larger turbine, keeping the same compressor wheel? I don't know why the turbo would have gone, it was built by CR Turbos and ran fine with me. Sounds like it's going to be even better now.

It looks like the oil journal failed Rob, the shaft has seized solid there is loads of oil in the cold side, when i tipped it upside down loads ran out of the top part that connects to the charge pipe, but non at all on the hot side  just one of those things, Mark at CRT said it should see 300bhp with the rebuild... we shall see.

Is the crack in it large and unrepairable?
I can take it to work and try to weld it if you want?

No its a small crack that goes from one of the mounting bolt holes into the collector, you can have ago at it if you want but from what i hear it would probably do it again.
