Andrew your car is so strange at the moment could believe that it would not restart when warm and then drove fine once it had settled.

couple of options i have found faulty ASV
air in fuel lines/ filter
or a pump

could the reving beyond 4000rpm be a mapping issuie , now i have never had the car mapped or chipped , but the previous owner was convinced the owner before them had something done (bo evidence tho appart from RR 185bhp)

could i have lost the settings in translation whil the cars been off the road for months , i wouldnt have thought so but o guess

No to the loss of the data in the ecu!
White smoke can be too much fuel just as black smoke is!

andrew this one sounds right

7. You turn the key to start and you get the lights, the engine turns over and FIRES! then it dies after running for about two seconds.

The Basics.

The car has an antitheft device that will allow the car to start, but will shut it right back down if it doesn’t like what it sees.

Troubleshooting.

This will probably be accompanied by the immobilizer icon. This icon is an outline of the car with a key superimposed on the bottom.

***A picture would be nice***

The first thing you want to do is to try a different key if you have one and see if that works. And did you change the battery in your remote? I’m not sure how long these batteries last, hopefully others will chime in with an average lifespan.

Another quick thing to try is to remove the battery cables and touch them together for a slow count of 5.
Here is a link to the Ross-Tech (The people that make VAG-COM makers) site on immobilizers.

I will post a few links or stuff I found quickly just searching here for "immobilizer".

Another possibliity is that the Antishudder valve is stuck closed. This can allow enough air in the engine to allow it to run for a second or two, then die. See this link for more information.

Well the mrs megane is not lookin the best gear linkage or sumin ,

Rite I've dropped the oil and filter last nite - came out like water very thin , taken her out for a runn and does seem to rev more freely now. Are these Engines reliant on having the correct oil in etc like the honda vtec they won't let vtec kick in if there's not enuff oil ?

Still tappin louder than normal

Still won't start once warm - can this be the fuel temp sensor ?

Cheers
