I recently did a 25 mile journey. When I left home I had about 100 miles of diesel available. When I got to my destination I was down to 30. Admittedly I was touching 80mph in places :). I marshal at rallies and was running a bit late to get the (free) breakfast before the briefing.
Yeh that range is just a load of BS I reckon just like the advertised Mpg u meant to get around town and motorways even. Don’t think they use real life conditions when doing their testing to get them figures!

Of course you can't really rely on those gauges. I had a Ford Fiesta 1.25 about 3 years ago. The only place I could get MOT was 50 miles away. On the way home. About a mile from the MOT centre, the fuel gauge was on bottom of the red. And the digital readout was showing 0 miles left. About an hour later I was home and the car was still going. But as most of the journey was on the M1 I was praying the car would keep going.
Interestingly I discovered that the OBDeleven app has an output test (I think it's in the dashboard module) that shows exactly how many litres are in the fuel tank.
