I'd just get it back to running as it should first. Then, and only then would I consider mods for it as you might be throwing good money after bad.

In terms of fuel pumps there are only 3 related items that I can see on ETKA.

038 145 101 B Vacuum Pump for AQM, AGR, ALH, AHF, ASV engines
038 145 209 N Fuel and vacuum pump - AQR engine
038 145 209 E Fuel and vacuum pump - ARL, ASZ engines

ive asked him to check the pumps to compare

ok mine had 038 145 209 E

the spare one we had has same code 038 145 209 but with an A on the end

the part number seems to be stamped in a different place on the servo he mentioned ??

can anyone shed somelight , is this where my problem now lies , hes saying it revs to about 4k but is stil smoking and spluttering etc

cheers:help:

I'd still be looking at a compression test before anything else. No amount of fecking around will help if there's a rod bent or lack of compression for whatever reason.

For information, the tandem pump 038 145 209A suffix was dropped (discontinued) and replaced with 038 145 209E suffix.

I would not expect smoking to be a result of a lack of fuel.
Its inability to rev beyond 4k could point to fuel starvation though.
What colour is the smoke, black grey white or blue?

cheers

Sorry I had not replied mate I left the phone at home!
They are around £350 new so I would expect you to pay between £50 and £100?
For compression testing on a diesel its usually done through the glow plug hole and I believe the equipment is specific to diesels due to the much higher compression ratio.
The tandem pumps are pretty reliable.
The type fitted to the ibiza 130 is definitely different to the leon arl engine though.

The A suffix tandem pump was used on Seat range until 2003 when it was dropped. The E suffix replaced it. VAG update parts from time to time so not really an issue.

Glynn, the rods are strong, but designed to carry enough strength to compress diesel fuel which burns and goes off down the exhaust. If the drum diesel had anything in it which didn't burn (pretty obvious due to the sludge) then this doesn't burn, builds up in the combustion chamber, doesn't compress, and the pistons/rods in effect hit a solid block instead of the compressible fuel/air mixture. Bent rods are common in engines where contaminated fuel has been introduced or water gets in the air inlet.

1. Was the oringinal diesel dodgy ?

2. If so, take it to a dealer/specialist. Might be more expensive, but you will know what the issue is instead of throwing money at it via other garages who cant find the issue.

3. If the diesel wasnt dodgy, get your ass back to the garage & get them to either pay for the reapirs or a brand new car !!

Ahh right - didnt he say it was "white" though ?

Not worth the hassel to save a few quid - the police always do a bit of dipping test, if you get clocked with that, your fooked !

it was White diesel not Red

the drum which contained the real stuff must of had a bit of chlorine / bleach which must have been used to clean or store in these drums ,,

bought refurbed injectors , and have put them in , car still didnt runn tidy was smoking like hell and wouldnt rev much

took the refurbs back and tested them , turned out their nackered onces , so hoping to get my money back

and have just been sorted out by Glynn (cheers mate)

and will try glynns injectors and see how we get on

right then ive been told shes all working and ready for me to pick up after work

so cheers Glynn for them injectors m8,

only problem i now face is,

The college at which i bought the so called refurbished injectors (prior to glynns ) had been send back and tested again and said the were fwooked , now they are telling me it was my fault ,

i cant see that fitting a set trying to start it (at which it wouldnt ) would ruin them straight away ,

so will see 2nite how she goes , like taking your test again!!!
