Anybody got any pointers on where/ how to prize the top half of the key apart so I can swap the transponder chip?

Ive removed the badge and the screw, but dont want to snap the casing trying to open it up. It seems pretty well closed!

well, I cant get the bugger open, ive damaged it now!

The top is off the 2005 key I bought, reckon they must have started glueing them.

anyone got a spare top half they dont need, and that separates!

EDIT

Well ive got it split, but the damage is done, it needed real brute forec to get it open. i think it might be something to do with the fact that it came from a 2005 key.

I have been chatting to an ebay seller about buying another top, and hes says that the transponders in early keys can be reprogrammed and you dont need another

Can anyone confirm or deny?

I only have one key that works wityh the car and dont want to risk trying to remove the transponder.

Well, I've managed to "pair" the following remotes with my car (Seat Leon 4 20VT MK1 MY2003):

HLO 1J0 959 753 AH (VW Golf IV, Hella 434MHz, 3 button, ALL buttons are working for me)
HLO 1J0 959 753 G (Seat Leon II MY2007, Hella 434MHz, 3 button, *trunk* button NOT working for me)

The procedure that DID work for me was the following:

- Place new key into the ignition and turn the ignition on (DON'T start the car though)
- Immediately turn ignition off and pull key out
- HOLD 1 of the buttons down (doesn't matter which)
- PRESS the other 3 times (with a SLIGHT pause) 1 . 2 . 3
- Watch the led on the key (should flash) and doors usually try to lock/unlock
- Again, place new key into the ignition, turn ignition on (DON'T start the car though) and wait for 5 seconds
- Turn ignition off, take the key out and test to see if it's working

Cheers,

Dimitris

Reference post for any user that needs it:

Managed to code the first key I purchased - HLO 1K0 959 753 G to my mates 2003 Seat Leon Cupra R. So if you have a later Leon then this key will work. However, its a 3 button and the boot release doesnt work.

So if i've got a 2002 Leon Cupra, the top one would be best yes?

I wish I knew mate... Thing is I wasn't able to recode the Transponder for any of those keys... The message I get is "Wrong Key"... I visited a SEAT near me and they told me that the Chip/Transponder is of the wrong type for my car and, although the FOB IS working (locking, unlocking the doors), the Immobilizer just won't recode to my car...:cry::cry:

Was it a used Transponder? If so i have been told that used ones cannot be reprogrammed, hence why i've sourced new ones

Used Transponders and Chips can DEFINATELY be recoded... The Chip should compatible with your ECU though and the ones I have are not... Guess I have to buy new ones, get rid of the old ones and glue them on the FOB... Yiiikes... Anyways, I'm just about to give up...

To be honest, there's a direct 2 button Flip-Key-FOB replacement that WILL work and the part number(s) for it are (loading ETKA :D) ... ... ...

- 1J0 959 753 CT (Remote Control Transmitter for Led-Radio Control Central Locking System, Square Key Pad @ 433,92MHz)
- 6L0 837 246 B INB (Main key with change code transponder @ 433,92MHz)
- 1M0 837 891 A JGT (SEAT sign Chrome/Blue)
- N 105 283 01 (Micro-Cell Battery)...

Ah right, i've just put an offer on ebay for HL0 1J0 959 753 N, FREQUENCY (433MHZ), i hope that works! Will pay Seat a visit sometime to get one of those badges, thanks for that. My only problem now is getting it programmed to my car as the only key i have has wiped itself!
