well today I installed another timing belt kit and waterpump, this time from Febi, the same noise is still there so it clearly wasnt the Gates kit causing it, Ive took the aux belt off and the noise doesnt change so its deffo coming from the timing belt componants, very annoying, its bang on timing and drives perfectly, could it just be a bedding in thing with the new tensioner and roller? I havent done timing belts on these cars before so I dont know if this is normal. although I did find this and and in the comments the guy says its better after a few miles. its exactly the same noise mine makes with the Gates or Febi kit....

also wired in cruise control today and all works good :)

Couldn't that be a bearing on its way down?

its 2 brand new kits installed and both make the same noise all parts changed each time, tensioner, roller pulley, waterpump and belt, everything torqued to spec so I cant see how a bearing could be responsible in both kits unless ive been crazy unlucky lol

Maybe not a bearing from any of the kits tho, maybe something else

Doesn't your engine have 2 idler pulleys?

no thats a different setup to mine, mines the 1.8t 20v AUQ engine, it has the cam pulley, hydraulic tensioner with idler pulley attached, then it has a concentric pulley that helps keep belt tensioned with the hydraulic pulley, waterpump and the crank pulley, nothing else. Ive made a thread for this issue to save cluttering up this one, appreciative of any help.
