Secondary air pump being blowing on my 04 Cupra for ages.
I dont have ramps or anything to get enough access to remove it and drill out the old rivets and replace with nuts and bolts. So, I decided to use some good ol' JB Weld! (other epoxy derivative glues are available and will probably work just as well!).
Basically I test cold started my car and held the bottom of the air pump together by hand to test my proposed repair effectiveness. Worked a treat.
Along the accessible lower edge I smeared a small amount of jb weld, trying to work it into the gap and clamped it and smoothed over the excess. Although the gap is small the amount of force required to close it is minimal (easily done between finger and thumb).
Removed the clamp this morning (left myself a note on the drivers seat just in case i tried to drive off with it still in place) and started her up. Success! - no nasty derv-like noises!
Hopefully it will hold long term. (if not nothing lost though really)
I understand on some VAG cars the pump is actually just a sealed unit so can't be retro fitted with nuts and bolts. In those cases this is very much worth a go as a cheap option.
