Hey sorry for the late reply! my car was doing exactly the same as yours alex. and it gradually got worse as time went on until it was undrivable. i plugged vag com in a few times and was getting all sorts of faults come up, anything from Throttle Control Valve malfunction to ABS sensor and Lambda sensor fault! change everything i could and still had the same problems. I'll pm you the name of the place i used to sort my ECU! :)

When you first started getting problems, what did it do?

Yeah i have had about three different faults come up over the last couple of weeks that dont really make sense and after checking nearly everything it still doesnt add up! The one i got on Sunday made my Engine Management Light come on, the fault was cleared and it hasnt come back on? Its SO random :(

I did think an ECU could be repaired but then heard that it couldnt? What made you know it was the ECU that was faulty?

I took it apart and saw that the main circuit board was corroded!
The engine management light, Traction control light and EPS light kept coming on and it was putting itself into limp mode. then it wouldnt idle properly and was undrivable.
It had been getting gradually worse over a few weeks. and now ive got it back i can realise how much it was under performing prior to this.

I wasnt sure if it could be done, but they downloaded my mapping then ordered the new parts and rebuilt the ecu. then uploaded the mapping again. was scared i was going to lose my Revo but they saved it!

Hhmm yeah i was told by the local garage it went to that it drove better with the MAF out even though its had a new MAF but i was then told by someone that specialises in ECUs that by unplugging the MAF its kind of like disconnecting it from the 'electrics' so it wont need to kind of go through the ECU to run ok, something like that anyway! Does that make sense? Dont quote but i could see what he was saying to me about it

What about when you drove above 4000RPM, did it pull back at all?

kind of made sence! lol.

yeh it was definatly holding back all through the revs, i thought it was just the heat but it was juddery and idled lumpy. towards the end it wouldnt rev above 2000rpm. Was using loads more petrol than it is now aswell. the ecu was just sending all the wrong signals and messing everything up!

It does sound exactly like mine! :(

Did they say what can cause it to go?

I am going to have it looked at on Saturday and that should tell me whats going on

I reckon its a poor design of where the ECU is placed. Right under the scuttle pannel getting covered in water everytime it rains or i wash it! just got damp and corroded. think it may have been going for quite a while gradually, like maybe years. I'm going to try and rig up some sort of sheild for it to try and stop it happening again.

Yeah i suppose your right! I mean my car is five years old now and with rain, washing it and washer fluid im not surprised that something may have got inside it or something is damaged! The plastic cover that is over it isnt exactly the best and there was water and dirt on it too

Its a shame because with something that is SO important to the proper running of the car, you would have thought it would be a stronger design

Where is the ECU, how do you waterproof it?

If this is down to water ingress, surely it should of been a recall by seat?

the ecu is on drivers side, looking from the front, at the back the 2 plastic covers you can take off, on the right is the pollen filter and on the left is the chip

mine already looks waterproof to be honest? theirs a kinda black insulation stuff all around it?? dont know if that is oem or the guy who had the car before me done it??

I know its so important and its almost as if they just couldnt be bothered to find anywhere decent to put it. lol. havent decided how i'm waterproof it yet! i think just putting a better cover over it will help quite abit. because as alex said the plastic cover that is there doesnt really achieve much!

Yeah it is covered and sealed as OE standard with the plastic cover on top of it too but over time i think as things begin to get older with general wear and tear the seals probably are not as tight

You think of how much you drive your car in the rain, wash it and put the washer fluid on! Its not surprising they go bust now and again

It pretty much looked like it was achieving nothing being there although it must help a bit

I have been told NOT to put a plastic bag around it though as i think the whole point of it only being a plastic cover rather than a plastic surround as standard is to give it some room to breath as if it is put into a plastic bag, vapour & moisture will occur from the air inside the bag and it will probably :censored: up once again

Yeh definatly, i will bare this in mind when making a cover for it!

Any luck with the car yet?

No in fact it had been a bit better since Sunday at Donny South (as in it hadnt popped and banged in the morning on start up) but this morning pained me

What was yours like on start up? Mine seem to pop and bang and idle lumpy for about 10 seconds and then it seems to sort itself out, i mean this isnt all the time as since Sunday it hasnt really done it but then other times its gone on for up to 20 seconds
