Water leak into footwell - dodgy seal info and DIY repair guide (Image links dead)

this is me being really lazy, but is there anyone close to colchester that has done this that wants to meet up and help me do mine?

With the weather turning, im after getting this done quickly, as in the last few days the water has started making its way into the cabin.

If someone has done it previously then i can get it done quicker! Some beer money/lunch in it for you

What you grab to close the door covers two screws, and then there are two on the bottom.
When all the screws are out, lift the card up and disconnect anything attached.

I've tried prying the handles off but they dont seem to shift - the first page mentions clips on it but i cant seem to see these.

My left front speaker is failing slightly so was thinking if i actually sort this problem i may change mine eventually.

The handles are a bit tight but once you get under them just give them a hard pull and they will come off.

They are two halves pushed together you can see the join looking at them, get a screwdriver underneath and it will come apart.

Right ok - I was strung up about the apparent lack of a clip. Will give this a go at some point just to see what its like underneath... from my understanding, once this is removed i then remove the metal panel and the dodgy seal is behind this?
Will need to buy some of the stuff mentioned to re-seal which means looking through all these pages again. Trouble is finding the time, the tools and the 'know-how'.

Just out of interest, why hasnt Seat owned up to this fault and willing to repair whether or not in warranty... It seems so many people have this issue. I love the car but it really doesnt fill me with confidence for Seats in the future.

Assuming I can eventually fix this.... How can you lift up the carpets? is it possible? I assume there will be foam or something under this which is probably damp and mouldy... wondering... if you can get under it, has anyone replaced the underlay?

The door card lifts up so the two bottom screws will give you hastle.

No, you just loosen the top two but remove the rest 10mm bolts holding the carrier to the door.

Seats out carpet up replace the underlay is the only imho, other ways will make it stink over time.

a mini dehumidifyer will work wonders, that what i used, although thats a serious leakage!!

i bet all SEAT would do for £400 is replace the door seals.

Have woken this morning to find a nice puddle in my passenger rear footwell
Have had issues with central locking since last year so Im guessing this is related I've had two garages look at the locking issue (and when I say issue it is a MAJOR issue ) and both had all the door cards off but didnt mention any damp been present

Thanks to the OP for this guide I'll have a look through and get the bits and bobs required

Well once again I removed most of the water yesterday. I think both rear footwells had at least a litre of water in it. Took me 20 mins to de-mist the car this morning

granted you would need to run an extension lead to it but it worked a treat when the roof leaked on my last car. left it running with all the doors closed for about 4 hours and it really sucked alot of moisture out.

took about a day to get it nice and dry, its the sound proofing that takes ages to dry.

try the word doc.. i got the pics in there

as for the dehumidifier... try getting one of those moiture straps they sell for sheds.. self contained with silica gel in the bottom i think. I have left one in my car, and so far so good. not as quick as a proper dehumidifier... but will do the job until you can fix it

Yes got the Speakers changed by a pro installer but that was some time ago but now you say that, it is very close to the time it stated leaking???

The speakers needs resealing, water was seeping through my passenger one.
Never spotted it till i used talc.

So just to confirm, do i use one or the other?

Silicon to be applied where the old foam seal use to be or just replace the old foam seal with silicon? As if im reading it right then people are trying both ways with good results. Is it worth using both?
