Took the door panel off this morning and the seal was soaking and coming off in small pieces so got it sealed up and screwed back together. Only takes about 20mins to do but i did break one of the plastic clips that holds the panel on! That can wait until next week to be fixed

Finally got round to sealing the two drivers side doors this afternoon, went for the easy approach of applying sealant to the carrier/door interface without unbolting the carrier. Rain forecast this week so fingers cross for no wet shoes when opening the doors :)

Once sealed, has anybody still had a build up of water on the sill, just crossing the where the rubber meets the plastic, only when they park at a curbside? If my car is level, then this sealing up has meant problem solved, but if i park in the gutter at home, which is usually the case. The lean of the car, means i still get water crossing this borderline come the morning after a nights rain! Ive experimented with the door card off and lots of water, and im not sure where it comes from, but the bottom hole where the door card fixing clip goes in looks like the culprit! That is above where this water crossover takes place on the sill. How the hell do i seal that while still making it perform its function? I dont think the insertion of the clip alone is enough to seal. Or maybe its something else. Ive noticed someone on here had cut their rubber seal just enough to expose the drain hole. Maybe thats a quick release option for the build up of water.

Result.

My NSF sprung a leak since doing the regulator, couldn't see the leak, so i used talcum powder and when it rained it washed the talc away so used a touch more sealant and shall wait for rain.

Hi, Have just done the two front door inner seals. Cost? Two hours of my time, one tube of silicon sealant.Am now trying to empty the swimming pool in the rear footwell! Certainly the repair is within the realms of even the most incompotent(me) DIY'er! Thanks to the OP for the hints :D

Can you please explain to a simpleton where exactly I need to apply the sealant as I have a similar problem with my rear footwells flooding? Did you need to take the door panel off to do this? Cheers

I took the plastic panel off completely and took all the bolts out of the metal panel underneath it apart from the top 2. Then wedged the metal panel open with a couple of blocks of wood, cut the old seal off from about halfway down on each side and cleaned it up. Then put the sealant where the old seal used to be

I think ive already asked this but didnt get a response. Where exactly on my pollen filter do i apply the sealant. Ive been told near the window and at the bottom of the filter box? but where exactly lol. Sorry to be a pain (i beleive my leak is caused by the pollent filter)

Does this cover the whole leon mk1 range? I have a 54 plate 2005 LCR and I think I may have the early beginnings of this.
There is water left on the front passenger and drivers sills but no wet carpets in any footwells.

Is a small amount of water left on the sill normal or not?

Sorry, I've never had to do it.

The wet carpets will come, treat them now, and yes all the mk1 Leons.

Good description, Thanks

Hi, after many months with varyuing amounts of water in the drivers footwell, I put the Leon into a local garage. Needless to say they could not find a problem. So I did a search and found this site !
Hope to try the solution this weekend.

I'll be applying sealant to the remaining two doors this w/e (the ones that don't leak currently).

As above I just take the plastic door trim off and apply sealant over the carrier/door interface without unbolting the carrier. I clean the area to be sealed up with initially a damp cloth then a solvent ( isopropyl alcohol ). I use a clear, odourless sealant so no pong in the car either :)

Just noticed this morning, thanks to the talc idea, that my speaker is leaking the water, so run a bead of sealant around the speaker where it meets the door too.

So, after 12 hours of constant hard rain I find my rear footwells soaked again.
On opening the doors water rushes outfrom the sill but only really on the front doors, not so much on the back ones.
The front footwells only get wet if i dont let this water rush out before i drive. but the back ones seem to get soaked every time it rains hard.

As per the pic, i cant see it getting wet from arrow A, the side is dry. It seems to come in from where the front seats are attached to the floor (arrow B), so as if it fills up under the carpet and then when enough water is there comes up over the carpet. Is this the common problem that sealing the doors would fix???

I cant seem to follow this guide, not sure if im being dumb but cant even work out how to take the door panel off in the first place..... my door handle doesnt have a clip!

There seems to be several different places people are applying a new seal to. Can someone upload pics (the original pics have dissapeared)

Seat said this would cost 400- 500 quid to fix so want to resolve myself - otherwise im gonna sell the car.

What you grab to close the door covers two screws, and then there are two on the bottom.
When all the screws are out, lift the card up and disconnect anything attached.
