mk 5 golf boring not a head turner IMO thought you'g do Audi or Leon tbh? Can understand after all the looks mods why you do not want another ibiza tbh you want something a bit different. My FR just made 176bhp on rollers so yes I recommend a map!

i know but im kinda looking for a car for comfort and power atm, im fed up with having to declare mods and watching the insurance shoot up because of them, and i cant justify putting out more money to insure a 1.2 engine. Ive had my fun and feel someone else can enjoy it now.

There is a fr tdi at alisdair flemings just down the road from you. I went to look at it on saturday but i have decided to keep mine until next year. Its black pre-facelift with 43k on the clock. Paintwork could do with some work though tbh

might go for a wee look but insurance is expensive.

Ibiza fr tdi! You know it makes sence!

priced up insurance and im cheaper for the 1.9tdi mate. even though its the same car really lol.

You can get power and do no mods on anything else as well as a golf thou so not sure how that makes a difference. You don't have to do mods to be different VW just seem so part of the herd to me (our motto at edition is scene not herd!) Seat with no mods is not part of the herd is what I meant.

It's easy to say that when you drive an Ibiza. I can't count the number of heads that turn when I drive mine :lol:

The mk5 wouldn't be my choice for the cash but they're good cars.

Apart from jnsurance, is there any reason why your going for a diesel?
Honestly, with the miles you do, I wouldn't even consider a diesel. And I love mine to bits

Honestly, with the miles you do, I wouldn't even consider a diesel. And I love mine to bits

i dont know what to do, not many cars take my liking but i dont fancy another mk4 ibiza. i just want diesel for the fuel economy really and there lower insurance groups than petrol usually. although i think 105 horses is a little low tbh. i dno ahhh. i have basically got a budget of £4500 really

I could not go back to petrol the extra cost in the current times and with fuel just getting more expensive I would really feel the money loss. He can always get a quick petrol car after building up more no claims and being a bit older be cheaper to insure.

Plus the torque and boost is very addictive and fun!

Thanks aimes, thats helpful. I have done a few quotes and can insure the ones i have looked at. I could insure my 1.2 cheaper if i didnt have the mods but they just add and add, alot of people dont declare these but im an honest guy and wouldnt like to be the one who doesnt declare them then something happens. so yeh i love my car but would rather move on. I know for a fact i will mod the next one, but not to the same extent, i am going book a test drive in a mk5 golf i think once i source one locally, golfs are cars i have always like and as much as i would like a mk2 leon its just a bit out my pricerange just now. i do think at 105 horses the mk5 golf will seem slow, even a good map will put it too maybe about 125/130 which i think will still seem slow so thats the only thing putting me off them ATM.

Golfs can look very nice but i wouldnt bother unless it was a gti or r32.. Otherwise they are too plain and boreing!
Also the engine in the diesel 105 are only as quick as a 1.4 tdi ibiza .. Just dont think that would be what you were after?

If i was in ur boots id have a red ibiza fr tdi on my drive and swap the lot over.. If you can insure it that is!

Well good luck in your search if that is what you have wanted you will love it I am sure, stick some nice wheels on and a map you will have a smile on your face for a while. I went from a 1.25 to my FR when I was 22 and was not bored of the power for a long time, okay you may not have it quite as quick but not too far off and the same if you get a map. As I said it is totally different to drive you get to love the turbo boost!

how come your insurance is so expensive, i did a quote for myself for an ibiza fr tdi with 3 points, fully comp, main driver with my mum on and it came up with a price of £1354 from Admiral. Yeah you should have a wee look at that fr tdi, its not in very good nick but i reckon it could be sorted out. Also, the turbo was replaced under warranty and the brake servo has just been replaced because of sticking brakes problem.

About the 1.9tdi golf, well i drive a leon at work with the same engine and find it to be ok, has decent torque but is very very noisy. Have always liked golfs as well, nice sturdy cars that hold their value well. Only thing is where are you going to get one that is within your budget as they are quite dear?

Do they not do a PD130 Mk5 Golf.

PD105 even remapped to 130 is going to feel slow in a car the weight of a golf.
I'd assume it'll only be a 5 speeder too?
I'd have thought you would be best with a PD130 ibiza sport and swapping your bits over.
But in saying that, I don;t think I'd buy another Ibiza (even though I'm perfectly happy with mine) so I can see the need for change

I know someone with a 1.4 MK5 Golf and it isn't slow compared to my Ibiza 1.2 but i think a 1.6 petrol would be best compromise over cheap running and decent power.

I'd agree, test drove a 1.6 Leon once, it was crap.

Diesel is the way to go, I'd take the torque over the raw horsepower any day.

Booo!! Biased Mark.. Lol, only joking, My dad has a diesel RangeRover, and that pulls like a train.. But it should stop revving at 4000rpm, He had his chipped and remapped, and it revs up to 5300rpm now.. But even so, its a 2.5 and a petrol 2.5 should be going all the way up to 6500rpm..
Your 20 now mate, go and get a MR2.. My brother has one, he was 21 when he got his.. And it flies.. Eats LCR's for fun.. I know I would mate.. Mk2, revision 1 by the way.. Pick a mint one up for around £2000 now buddy..

Yeah he has a turbo now, but when he had his NA MR2, he had a forced induction kit, Stainless full exhaust, Iridium spark plugs, and decat.. Standard wheels were wrapped in toyo proxes, and he raced an LCR from the lights and raped it.. Not even joking..

All that proves is that the LCR wasn't trying. I've owned an NA MR2 (later converted to turbo) and trust me they are dog slow. 174bhp and could easily get beaten by 130bhp cars all day long.
