Thanks for the enthuasiasm guys, been having a good think over the last few days and have come to a decision
Basically over the last year or so the lcr has dropped in price quite dramatically and as many threads on here have picked up the difference in the new owners to the older ones.
Without sounding harsh the are now becoming chavvy cars, i noticed this after meeting up with barn in town the other day and watching them doing 'laps'
I'm going on holiday later this year which will consume a large amount of money so nothing will be happening immediately but very very regretably i will be looking at selling my car of 5 years
I will be fitting the FMIC, catch can, etc and having a stage 2 map on it to enjoy it as much as i can before it goes.
I wont be fitting the stroker or bits and will probably sell it all once ive set my mind on it and the get rid of the multitude of 1.8t bits i have amassed over the years.
I'll still be sparing no expense giving the car exactly what it needs and i'd like to take it on the track one more time as it was so much fun and coped so well.
I'll still be taking the bits from the S3 and doing all the bits so someone else has a package to do a 4wd conversion so the thread isnt over by any means yet.
I've just been waiting so long my enthuasiasm and enjoyment of the car has fizzled out and after talking to a few people on the weekend and highlighting performance cars being so cheap, i got thinking.
Also the fact the knowledge seems to be leaving the forum and its quieter times if i decided to keep i may struggle to get help with the parts i dont know/understand
So after i'm back from my holiday in august if i'm still in the same mind set i'll be hunting out a B7 RS4
I'd just like to thank everyone who's helped me get this far with the car and shown an interest

:( But understand your reasons mate.

Not a bad replacement in the RS4 if that is the route you take.

Cheers guys, i really didnt want to have to do this but feel i have no choice
I dont know if blokes get some sort of PMT but i've been getting so fed up the last few weeks, its got to me so much that i thought #@$£ it, i cant be bothered anymore
I've spent so much time and money on the car, making or customising things and grown to love and really dont want to see the back of it but a wits end
I may feel different a few months down the line (and really hope i do) and keep on and see the project through
Rough times:(

Was in a similar situation to you (minus the BT and 4WD on the cards lol) back in Dec/Jan time or so...
Contemplated trading in for an S3, mapping it and leaving it at that and being more comfortable... but decided against it. Money spent on an S3 and it still wouldn't feel as raw as the LCR. You just need a good drive with it tbh. The love I have for mine again is beyond what I thought I could ever get back for the old girl. Yes, chav's are trying to buy these LCR's now but they still struggle to insure them. It's still an awesome car that loads of people still don't know much about. For the money its worth you have to ask yourself what are you really gaining by changing up and also what do you want from a car in say 2 years time? I still want a spacious hot hatch that sounds the tits and that I can rag hard with fairly trouble free motoring. The LCR is the perfect car for me right now and after having it for over 2 years and knowing it inside out and how she is pampered, I know its a decent car that will perform when I want it to.

Only tonight coming back from my mates which is a 10min drive, I took a detour and ended up going for a 40min drive purely because I miss driving it so much during my commuting getting the train to work during the week! Was raining like a monsoon too but its such great fun now as I imagine your car is on a blast.

Very hard to move on from these cars and find something as cheap to run and modify on a bigger scale. S3 for example for me I was looking at some which were £15-16k but these weren't even stage 2+ and would need another 2-3k spent on it just like that. And it'll still be heavier than the LCR. I prefer a driver focused car so sacked off the idea of shelling out for some leather and Bose stereo as nice as the S3's are the gap in value of my car to the S3 just made it totally unjustifiable personally.

Do what you want to do mate, but I sold my 1st LCR years ago and really regretted it. I'd only sell mine if I was desperate for the cash. Otherwise it really makes me smile and turns loads of heads still today.

Cheers tom, S3 and LCR are very similar but RS4 is a different breed altogether
I'll have to see if i could afford the swap too
I'm hoping the stage 2 will keep me happy enough to carry on, thats why i'm not selling anything yet

Stage 2 on a front wheel LCR will keep you happy trust me. I get hacked off with the car a lot and want to change it but then go for a hooligan drive and find my soft spot for it again. Think carefully dude, don't make any rush decisions. The RS4 is a lovely car and everyone can say do this or do that but at the end of it you need to figure out what is more you. RS4 or a mad BT 4 wheel drive Cupra R which will kick most RS4's butts ;)

Thanks for the supportive comments
So today after yet more thinking i stopped off at the Audi garage on the way home where luckily my friend works.
I had a bit of a chat to him about RS4's, the problems they come back in with and some 'unofficial' problems.
He explained they dont seem to have the ferocity of the turbo punch the LCR has but does progressively keep going very strong.
It was also explained the new stratified engines have the injectors in the head not the inlet manifold, which can lead to the valves becoming coked up and a loss of performance
Finally he suggested to go and have a look at one and drive it and see if its for me
Also some intercooler pipes should be finding their way to me very soon so i can get this FMIC on, ready for a map
I'm thinking if i do change it maybe this time next year so no rush.
I did look at the B5 RS4 too but with it being a turbo i think the temptation to start tuning will be too much
I also toyed with the idea of keeping the leon as a pure track toy but its in far to good condition and worth way too much for this so if i do decide to get an RS4 it will have to go
I'm going to order my ticket for inters after this so i can always meet up and have a chat with people there

I drove a B7 RS4 last year. Yes it doesn't have the same slam you get in a LCR when the turbo spools up, in fact at low RPM it feels a touch lazy but that helps make it very easy to potter about in, it's very civilized. Like most sporty N/A engines it needs to be kept spinning quickly to accelerate hard.

Whereas in a K04 Turbo'd car you find it's running out of steam when you get to higher rpm the 4.2FSI seems to pull harder and harder the closer you get to the redline, which really eggs you on. At about 5500rpm some sort of valve opens up and you get another surge. It is a truly awesome engine when it's on-song, so easy to rev it hard and take off. Ferocity isn't something it's short of, it just does it differently.

There are potential issues as with any car, the intake coking can be largely remedied with a good Italian tune-up once a week or two. The DRC suspension makes for amazing handling but there was a recall for leaky valves in the system. Ideally get one through Audi's approved used scheme and you won't have to worry about this, or get one that you can verify had the recall work carried out.

It's not just about the engine or the handling though, the noise is totally addictive. The interior is a really nice place to sit and drive. Make sure and get the proper Recaro buckets. It feels like a real event driving one. Lots of folk say "they're slow" or "they're heavy", they've probably never driven one. It felt a lot lighter, more nimble and an awful lot faster than my LCR and the one I drove was totally standard. It's on my shortlist for my next car too.
