Right guys just had an email from Kev letting me know what is possibly wrong with my car and basically to some it up i need a performance exhuast or someone has tampered with my Wastegate actuater think thats how its spelt.
I purchased the car from a police officer in Wales and he didnt do anything to the car and i know i havnt had any need to touch the wastegate, so i think that rules that out but i am getting it looked at anyway. Here is the email i got from Kev,
Hi Ben,
You’re basically overshooting requested boost and load.
Could be down to a couple of things which I’ll go through in a minute. First of all I’d turn down the boost levels (say to maybe 4 or 5) and up the timing (check VAG Com for CF when doing this) This should keep you away from any limits but also get some more power out of her.
I’d not reference the figures you saw on the dyno last month as you’d gone into limp mode on the way there so adaptation values would have been low… pulling settings back.
Looks as though your IC is very efficient although I can’t imagine it’s ‘that’ much more efficient than other ones we’ve seen out there. So problems could be arising from increased flow through the IC and a build up of back pressure with the stock exhaust system. Having said that the wastegate duty cycle looks very low for the requested figures… now this could be down to the hardware setup. But if you didn’t have the IC on I’d say it’s possible that someone’s been playing with the wastegate actuator (attached to the turbo, you’ll see a rod with a threaded end… it’d be the bolts on this that’d have been played with) could be causing the overboost.
It’s difficult to tell exactly what is causing it without checking it against other cars with similar spec/standard spec. We know that a standard spec LCR with software on doesn’t have these issues, we know it works on LCR’s with uprated IC’s, intakes, exhausts as well. So it’s either down to ‘a very efficient IC’ (which would be great although I’m not convinced at this point) in which case we could fettle the code to suit (although Stage 2 is really done for this) or a fettled wastegate actuator. You’d want to test/compare against a known good one.
It might be a benefit to run stage 2, but I’d really put that off until you’ve got the exhaust on. This isn’t necessarily going to fix your problems though if for example the wastegate has been played with. We wouldn’t know that without testing another car of the same spec that’s definitely not been altered.
Unfortunately without knowing the full extent of what’s happened in the past with the car and being able to test the IC/exhaust/etc. It’s very difficult to say. I hope this helps though.
Best Regards,
