Or. You're having your cake and eating it. Except the normal cake has full butter icing, which will make you fat and ill, and yours has a sprinkling of icing sugar.

It does the job, but it's not the real deal :)

new clutch probably soon now you said that traumapat, its allways the way lol, you probably jynxed yourself. anyway a stage 2 on a lcr should be findon oem clutch, its just the diesels that really need new clutches due to the high torque levels

that thought crossed my mind as i typed it  but i think your right... petrols seem to get away with it. even with relativly similar torque.

but ive noticed a few on here remap with a lower torque setting to save the clutch... so i guess you could talk to the person mapping and ask for a conservative setting.

in 4 years ownership ive had 2 mafs, temp sensor, waterpump but absolutly no problems with coil packs!( there i go again ) but i cant say the above are map related. shes on 90k so i expect the odd blip.

you need a healthy car to start with.. if you have issues the remap will make them more apparent.

Hi, I'm getting my 2002 Seat Leon Tdi S remapped tomorrow by Angel tuning. The figures on their web site claim a bhp increase of up to 35bhp which is well and good, but my main concern like many others on here is the effect that the remap might have on the clutch. Standard figures suggest the car has around 155lbs/ft of torque and the remap claims it can increase this to 210Ibs-ft.

My question is, would the standard clutch on the 90bhp be able to handle 210Ibs-ft? I know the 110, 130 and 150 engines can obviously handle the higher torque output, but is clutch the 90bhp version the same as the 110?

Thanks

Ian

Hi Johnx mate, i live in Bangor and have an FR+ TDI.
I was thinking about all the horror stories like you are and delayed getting a remap but I can tell you I have had 100% no bother from my remap and it makes a huge difference! :D
My clutch hasnt hinted of slipping. The remap is very smooth and progressive, drives more like a petrol. Revo and similar can be very aggressive with most of the power coming in very early causing clutch-slip.

btw, after some research I got mine done at OBD-auto-tune in Ballymena, brilliant guys and highly recommended also on www.reallymeansounds.com. Its around £250 which includes the rolling road before and after.
My car made 164bhp before and 197bhp (301 lb/ft torque) after.
pm me if you need more details

My clutch slips more when the temps are <12 degrees c. No other bits gone wrong with engine. Other bits gone wrong:

rear window warped manufacturing fault
Brake switch gone
central locking motor drivers side gone
brake hoses @ front replaced
brake discs all round replaced @ 38k miles, fronts with 312mm
tyres. Lots of tyres.

Aside from the brake and tyre stuff, all else under warranty. Starts, goes, stops. Does decent mpg and reasonable speed (when chipped. Stock=sluggish) Insurance is ok ish. I pay £390 fully comp with wife on who has had a few theft claims from her cars.

thanks guys, cheers snoopcousins... i got a quote of £235 at OBD or £250 to come to mine to do it. firstly im lazy so like the idea of them comin to me for 15 quid, but id miss the facts from a rollin rd test, so that would spur me to take it to them instead. #wake up ur car# in dromara is £250 plus vat, so £300 i make it.

i think at the minute ill get it done and take my chances with the clutch, as i have the cash to get a new uprated one, just wasnt aware of that issue til i started in here. those that have done it say its worthwhile, so i think ill enjoy it too!! just wanted to make sure id not cause several grands worth of damage if it went wrong....

im picking up as well that maps can be different depending on which company u go too...id thouhgt they'd all be the same, but there u go.

right..any other peeps out there got it done?

I'm sure alot of custom code customers would disagree, as would a few cars that have been up against them ;)

Was thinking that I should wait and uprate the clutch first and then remap...

Do I have this round the right way?

i couldnt have ment you:redface:. your a bit of a non starter in that area :D;)

sounds a sensible plan re clutch first. might be an idea to ring jabba/cc/ pwer tourque ect.. and ask what they rate your clutch at.. then get it mapped under that level....

but then if you want all out power.......;)

anyother waving competions and i`ll let you know

That would be a sensible plan ... so I need to source a suitable clutch then....

Happy to assist in waving competitions..... Perhaps as an independant adjudicator

There are always doubters, but if you beat something that should be quicker, then it doesn't matter who belives you.
My point isn't about cars i've beat, it was simply that you can have a decent remap and not have your clutch go on you. Some people don't want to buy a £700 clutch before another £450+ on a remap.
Just giving my opinion on an alternative. Sorry it touched your nerve
