Well after a long week messing around with just one small part of the install I thought I would share what's happened so far as I am to excited :D
This is still work in progress unfortunately thanks to connect2 and their inability to manufacture the correct facia !
Before I started the install I contacted Pioneer directly as I needed advise and at one point possibly new firmware
so here is the unit fitted
pioneerradio.jpg

nothing to special so far, but what's this button for ?:D

pioneerext.jpg

and why does it show the radio ?

Dab1.jpg

because it's the first mod I have done, people have done Double Din, people have also done DAB in a mk5, has any one done both ??? I have !!! :funk: A fully integrated DAB Radio ( tuner is hidden in the trunk along with the Ariel)

Dab2.jpg

the 2nd mod is a lot harder to show , it's a homemade video by-pass module allowing full operation of the video while driving. ( can find loads of how-to's on Google/ YouTube) This was done so I get to be the coolest Uncle when I collect my Nieces from school, Simpson's any one ?

pioneervid1.jpg

Here is the most disappointing part of the install so far - No Damn Facia !

pioneerfacia.jpg

spent a lot of time with the dremel trimming down the facia. It turns out that the connect2 facia is aprox 6mm to wide and around 3mm to long, Also the hole is also 8mm to small for the radio to fit :wtf:. So far its been cut down the middle and its now in two parts awaiting some 3M carbon vinyl to arrive to tidy it all up.

Awesome!

What's the background on the double-din element? One thing that put me off the Ibiza was that you couldn't get a standard size VAG double-din headunit for it. How did you go about getting this done?

background ? you mean the Bocanegra logo ? i nicked it off the internet and then uploaded it via usb, forgot to say i now have USB on the car at last, its hidden in the glovebox. :funk:
Removed the old radio and used a connect2 fitting kit that made the hole into a standard double DIN opening, it came with cage, keys, plastic holder for the cage/radio and a facia to finish it off, even if its the wrong size and crap quality. Didnt bother researching the standard VAG stuff as i wanted DAB,
Sound quality is far above the standard fitted Radio, Speakers are far better.
Next job is a custom wireharness to intergrate the standard fit bluetooth to the radio :p

I was gonna do this, but the car attracts enough attention as it is, and the double din is just asking for someone to smash the window and nick it. Maybe its just cause i live in coventry though.

lol, try living in South London!

I wonder if sorting out the headunit is something that will come in the next facelift to match the Fabia and the Polo. I know they did it for the Leon recently.

i work for a Bank
Headunit was £399 - http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pioneer-avhp4300dvd.html
Pioneer hideaway Dab unit - had it for a long time.. think it was £100 new, seen on ebay for less than £50

Brother-in-law ordered from ebay for me -
connect2 facia £37
Antenna Adaptor £4
Connect2 harness with pioneer adaptor £35
3m carbon vinyl £4

By-pass mod - £15 halfords (12v indicator relay, some wire and some spade connectors) takes about 10 minutes to make

Very impressive. I would need to pay someone to do it for me hahahahahhahahha

Mate its dead easy to do!

I design these systems and we always think about replacements and ease of removal when it comes to stereos as so much is hidden behind them.

Also you would be suprised how many people smash there screens in cars.

Pay ??? no chance, its easier than you think

the by-pass is only 4 wires, i watched this video -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDGZEZrUdRo

Radio removal.. 10 minutes.. finally found a use for my frequent flyer card, used it to remove the standard facia. 4 screws removed and then pull radio out.. use the handle to unclip the quadlock harness and small screwdriver to flick off the ariel from the standard headunit.

clip in connect2 harness to quadlock in car, clip in new ariel booster to original ariel lead. Attach headunit harness to connect2 harness, connect to headunit and your done !

extras for me were -
attaching green park break wire from the pioneer to the bypass mod and ground lead from bypass to ground of the headunit.

running usb from headunit to glove box - loads and loads of room to do this
running IP-bus cable from front to rear.. Also very easy

LOL, I would be too scared. that said, I have the aux/usb doc in mine so would that be compatible with this unit too as i see you ran the usb from your glovebox.

simple answer.. No..
the cup package only works with the standard head unit. i already know the pin out for the AUX on the car and will at some point make a cable that goes from the aux harness in the car to the back of the pioneer. but i doubt i would ever use it. I have the choice of SD Card, USB and DVD/CD so an aux in isnt top priority
USB in the glove box is handy as i am going to order a red hard drive to match the car :D

What i would do here is instead of running the usb to to the glove box, run it to the standard trim and remove the unit behind it, thus using stock location but with a better HU, if you really dont want to do it then im sure someone from here can help you out.

If you lived closer Id get you to come to me as I have everything you could ever think of needing at work for this.
