OBD II Wireless Devices and Apps

Good to see you were testing on private roads ;)

Lol. Yeah private road testing ;) I mostly tested on stretches of duel carriageways to get best results. Really need a good long stretch of private road as a private area I can use I's only good for 90mph but that's 3rd gear maxed out. I need 4th for better readings. I don't want to test it on public roads but I can't see it making much of a difference with the results except maybe torque figures and consumption lol.

I got the ELM327 bluetooth adapter working this evening ;)

Just need to set up the car details to get it sorted. I used a BT stack called RoqyBT4 and the RoqyOBD4 addon, available through Cydia.

Good on ya mate! Good find. I tried looking for stacks but only found one crappy one.

Still think I'd rather not go through the hassle of jailbreaking and stuff again (just removed jailbreak) and just get a WiFi one.

I just recieved mine off eBay. I went for a cheep one to c if ill use it then will upgrade later if I like it. Do I just start the engine then plug it in or does it need to be in before i start or does it really not matter

I don't think it matters but mine only works correctly with engine running. It wont even pick it up or connect otherwise. If you got a wifi then you May need to set it up correctly with a static ip address.

Can you keep these wifi dongles attached without experiencing battery drain? Ie. is it going to run my battery flat if left connected and the car is left for a long time?

Cheers

There must be power to the port when engine is off. I have the wifi one and that still sends a signal and flashes when the engine is off....

I still leave mine connected tho

If your sitting in the car fine ... but when you get out and lock it ... 3 seconds later the power to the port should turn off the same as the interior lights.

This sounds like it would be pretty easy to test?

ill test this and let you know..

there may be security implications to leaving it plugged in your car - imagine someone dodgy connects via a laptop and enables cornering foglights! the horror
