Alex, hows your car, is it fixed yet?

I had mine at the Braintree SEAT Dealers on saturday, at first he thought it was the CV joint gaiters making a noise as they are new, spayed the gaiters with lubricante but did nothing. Got it booked in for the Wed 14/04/10, not sure how long they will have it for though.

booked in for this monday - 12th. will keep you posted. they will have the car for atleast 4-5 days!! :(

I can sympathise with you Alex, i dropped my car into Braintree SEAT this morning. Will have it back this PM though.

However my gut feeling tells me they will not be able to find the problem, i think the gut feeling comes from experience with this type of fault. Good news is the noise happens everytime i pull away and the mechanic has heard it also, i will not have to accept the "it didn't make a noise with us today" sentance i am used to.

Will let you know.

Lucky you, mines being looked at because despite being only 78% blocked my DPF wouldn't clear under the dealer's VAS clear run so they suspect theres an underlying issue.
Have you got a courtesy car? no, sorry all ours are out til the end of the month.

I remember why I hate public transport!

I must say i do feel sorry for you nightflight with all the problems you are having with you Ibiza (same colour as mine).

Stick it out, be polite but firm with your dealership and hopefully you will have a good working car at the end.

Still better than buying the all too common fiesta or corsa. Corsa ranked bottom of Auto Express reliability survey.

Yeah, thats just it, when it's not broken, it's an amazing car and much better looking than a corsa or fezzy.

Dealership have been pretty good in fairness, keeping me updated with whats going on, (even if they are telling me rubbish [see thread in TDI sub-forum]) and seemingly not charging through the nose (i had images of £150-£250 going through my head for a regen) and looking into why the DPF wont clear rather than just telling me "you need a new one, that'll be £700 please" (though this view is liable to change!) It's just infuriating at times.

**update**
They've spoken to Seat and established that apparently the "coding" was wrong/had gone wrong, so they've "recoded" it and now it's all fine.
Hmmmm, i shall be probing further when i collect it later

spoke to the seat technician today, he recons it is the gear box mounts  as i told him 3 weeks ago after ibizasc-chris posted his diagnosis on here, will hopefully get my car back this week, at least i'm not paying for the insurance on the courtesy car, some people on here have had to pay £10 per day!!! :wtf:

at least they now know what it is, would have been better had they listened to you first.

i know, i had to insure a courtesy car a couple times and because i was under their age cut off i had to do it through my own insurance and it cost about £20 a day..

my car is going in for a service in a couple weeks time and they said they will collect it from my work this time for me...

I picked my car up from SEAT yesterday and they straight away blamed it on my Dual Controls. One of the guys tryed to charge me nearly £200 for the technicians time looking at it. Fortunately the service manager agreed that he should not charge me.

I Just had the dual control man round who took the controls out and still exactly the same noise. I put my head under the bonnet and got him to get a strong clutch bite point with a firm handbrake (so he didn't run me over) and i could here a very similar noise from the passenger side engine bay.

I still think it is the gearbox mounts however i do have a 1.6 TDI CR, Alex and Chris have a 1.4 and 1.4 TSI which i would assume have different mounts?

I don't have the luxury of leaving the car with them until it is sorted as i feel they will try and blame it on the dual controls and charge me an awful lot for it.

okay, so i'm gonna give you an update...

My car is still with the service department, which puts it at 10 days so far!!!!! :(

I called yesterday to get an update on the changing of the gearbox mounting and they said they had changed the mounting and the noise is still there...................the technician is in contact with SEAT technical department again as he now thinks it is coming from the chassis. it is now in a complete 'strip down' state and it has been tested with some kind of sonar device to search for sounds and record data to send off to SEAT. this device found the noise but didn't pinpoint it!! now they are waiting for what further action to take.
when i asked the lady on the other end of the phone what she thought would happen, if it is the chassis, she said she didn't know but they are just doing everthing SEAT ask them at the minute. she did say that they admit the noise should not be there. obviously they cant 'repair' the chassis!!!

will be more like next week before i know what is going on.

what do i do if it is the chassis and they cant fix it??? :help:

I am starting to feel really gutted....

Another update:

I got my car back yesterday!! :D
Seems like i wasn't told the truth from the lady on the reception about a week ago!!!!

I was told by her that they had ordered, received and fitted a new mount for the gear box and that it was unsuccessful in stopping the 'noise'. they hadn't done that at all...

I had a lengthy discussion with the service manager Thursday aft, and he explained everything (i know now to just just ask for him!!). They suspected the gear box mount, but the tests they were doing indicated the chassis. This data was sent away to be looked at, they have waited for SEAT HQ to get in touch with Spain, and for Spain to come back to them etc.... Apparently this is why it took so long.
It could either be (most likely) the mount making the noise, and that is transmitting down thru the chassis or (a very slim chance) it will be a weak weld in the chassis itself.
They have now been instructed to change the mount which is on back order and should take about 2-3 weeks to arrive from Spain.
If this doesn't work then it is an issue with the chassis. This, I am told is a very simple job and not as bad as i thought.

Plus side to it all, I have my car back :funk: and just in time as I'm off down to London next Friday which won't be embarrassing (Mitsu Colt 1.1L!!) any more.

Will post more when I know more.

P.S, saw my first 10 plate cupra on the road today, awesome car!!!

Thanks for keeping us updated on your car alexfr10. My noise is getting much worse and hopefully the worse it gets the easier it will be to diagnose.

I will probably wait until your car is repaired then i will take mine to SEAT Braintree again and get them to listen in the engine bay whilst i use the clutch to make the noise. I am convinced it is gearbox or engine mounts as it only makes the noise when the engine leans back when power is being added. Driving over bumps of rough surfaces has no effect on noise.

sorry for the wait on the reply m8, only just had the part fitted. turns out it was the gearbox mount and i am now 'creak' free - :D - only thing is that now, since getting it back from the dealer on thurs this week, there is a starange rattling and clunking coming from somwhere when i'm in 2nd - 3rd gear. will be calling them on tuesday (it's never ending)...
