ash has been wondering how his torque is sligtly low and am i correct here in what i say?

Don't you go getting me in trouble here young man! To be honest, right now, I don't care if it goes back to 130bhp! i just want it to run without going into limp mode or going off the gauge with boost!

Reaching the end of my teather now, nearing 3 weeks now of not having a proper running car! :( And I'm a bit miffed that I've missed out on GTI Spring Festival as this was the first show of the season! :(

I'm sure it will be sorted mate, I believe it's the turbo causing the problem now mate, I've been in your situation before, not to do with turbo, but other things and I know how you feel mate ;)

You believe it's everything P-torque say. No offence.

I've had a look on the turbo dynamics website and this is what they suggest for the turbo overboosting.

"Check wastegate valve and actuator operation, also check for leaks in pressure hose to actuator, replace faulty parts as required"

Which I presume Performance Torque have already done?

well i did say map or maf sensor before p-torque did ;) and after seeing what happened to jonjays standard turbo, it is only down to the turbo i feel now

As far as I'm aware, turbo dynamics bench test all their turbos before them leaving their workshops. And I believe I read somewhere on their website that they run them up to 230,000rpm when doing so!!!

So I very much doubt it would be the turbo, I'm not saying that it won't be, but the only way I can see the turbo failing is due to it overboosting in the first place.

Dont be so sure mate - I saw a turbo come from TD that was broken.

Dont get me wrong I think TD are great but nothing is fullproof.

Same here fella! I'd told the club I was with I would be there but had to back out at the last minute as I thought it would've been sorted on Friday.

It seems now that I may have an actuator problem, or indeed the turbo.

I moved the car out the garage today to clean it, all was fine. Started it back up to move it back in and it sounded like there was something loose flying round the engine! It shut up after a few seconds but obviously something is VERY wrong.

P-torque have now said they want the car back to send the turbo off. But I don't know how I'm going to get the car up there. Plus, turbo dynamics is in Dorset. If I drive from Somerset to Wolverhampton, my turbo will then be sent back PAST Somerset to get to Dorset! So I may aswell send it off from here, or even take it there myself and get it sorted quicker, and save me 300 more miles!

I've contacted Turbo Dynamics and await their reply tomorrow. I'll then be in contact with P-Torque once I've heard back from Turbo Dynamics.

WHAT A HEADACHE!

Right, some pics of how dirty that car was! As you can see, it was covered in soot after getting some stick at P-torque the other day. The number plate actually fades from black near the exhaust, to dark yellow at the other end!

With water on, you can see how dirty it is!

Hi Guys

I will contact Ashley directly after this post, as its hard work keeping up with all the posts on this thread now :cartman:

Yesterday we checked and tested the following:

Boost Control Valve duty cycle
MAP sensor (changed and saw less of a boost spike)
All intercooler hoses checked
All vacuum hoses checked
Multiple logs made on the dyno and these confirmed that the boost is going over what the Map is requesting (see below)

AshleyLogs.jpg

We fitted a new MAP sensor, but it was literally in a pool of oil.

If there is still an overboost situation after this, then the turbo will have to be sent back to turbo dynamics for inspection, as its the only other possibility now.

Sooo.... looking at the logs, between 1764 and 4452 revs, its requesting 2601 millibar.

1bar = 14.5 psi from a quick google, so...

so, 2.6 x 14.5 = 37.7psi

so throughout the entire rev range more or less, the car is requesting 37.7psi, when the turbo is only safe for 30psi?

That looks a little suspect to me...

EDIT!!!! So, I didn't realise I had to subtract the ambient pressure. So after going through it again, the spec. pressure is supposed to be 23.2psi, and actual boost is about 28psi. So I have been proved wrong and I apologise for the confusion! Back to square one then...

So from what you're saying then, from 2373 - 3969 rpm is nearly all at 3 bar. So if 1 bar is 14.5psi, then 3 bar is 43.5psi.

So my car is trying to run 43.5psi of boost?

To be honest, that's why I could be having turbo issues as I was running roughly FIFTEEN psi of boost over what it's capable of?

If what you are saying is right R1ch85 - the sh1t is about to hit the fan in a big way.

also, its still overboosting, the actual boost reads nearly 3 bar which is 43.5 psi!!!!! On a turbo thats good for 30psi lol. Something definitely needs looking at there!

Well that would explain why when I plugged it into a fault code reader it came up with "turbo boost limit exceeded - overboost" fault code! And it would also explain why my boost was going off the 30psi boost gauge and trying to go back round again!

I'm trying SO hard to keep calm. I'm not going to say anything just now! I think some explaining needs to be done though. Either to prove you wrong, or to prove you right.

....Maybe the logs are wrong though, who knows.... ;)

These logs would've been taken from the map sensor? As the map sensor is the boost sensor? And the map sensor was replaced with a brand new one? So it's not as if the map sensor is gonna be faulty and giving false readings?

The spike (called "overboosting" but this expression is not exact) is very important  too important.

Perharps some solutions in order to reduce spike :
  • tighten the actuator stem (spindle, how can you say ?) on the turbo,
  • a big work on the N75 map, but I think P torque work on it...

It seems to be a problem of variable geometry as if it doesn't work. Did Ptorque work on the N75 map in the remap ? It's completly different from origin because turbo is different, logical...

The request for this turbo is very low and spike long and important. How is possible ? Did you verify actuator stem/spindle on the turbo ?

I suppose you work a lot on N75 map, did you ? It could explain the spike...
