Saw a Kiwi Gti on Autotrader with a cheeky VR6 swap for £1495 :)

Love the idea of all that lovely noise in a mk2 but I bet it knocks the handling for 6!

He's been running absolutely fine - no probs Friday. I went to move it Saturday and it didn't start first time. Second time I cranked it, it did eventually fire - tickover was a little eratic. Thinking it might be damp, I gave things a spray with WD40. Fired up again and it was running smoothly.

I went to check it today and it won't fire at all, I cranked it a few times, but nothing. I pulled a lead off and popped a plug in it - I have a spark.......

Didn't have time to check any further tonight. This is a bit more of an issue now we no longer have 3 cars

Obviously - no fault codes.

going back to basics
Another thought, going along the lines on Marks theory...

...my old Mk3 disastra had the same problem as your describing which turned out to be the fuel pump solenoid, it was apparently quite comical to watch me contort myself into a position where I could turn the key and tap the fuel tank with a rubber mallet at the same time to start it:cartman:

Try it and get someone ready with the camera :cam:

I replaced the fuel pump relay (as the other wasn't actually clicking) to eliminate it, no difference. I'm a bit baffled as to why it has a spark, and smells of petrol when cranked, but doesn't fire at all, not a cough or a splutter. Do I assume the injectors aren't putting any fuel out? I'll whip the plugs out tomorrow and see if they're wet with fuel......

last time mine wouldn't run with good fuel/spark was the coil pack but you just fitted a new one ?

either that if it's been stood a while like mine was the idle valve needed a clean out too

Yes, new coilpack very recently. If that was duff, I'd have no spark, would I?

It was running fine on Friday..... Throttle body off ? Is the idle valve there, Flaps?
