Forge Actuator

Hi all,

Can someone explain preload whe it comees to an actuator. I have fitted a Forge Actuator to a 225 Cupra R today and have adjusted the nut on the arm currently to 7 threads (the arm is shorter than the OEM)

Is it running ok, but when i first put it n I don't think i understand what preload is as was getting lots of chatter.

I assumed 2mm preloads meant tightening the nut to apply (2mm along the rod) pressure on the wastegate after it was closed and that this was preload!

Like i said after lots of chatter I have brought the nut back and this has corrected the issue. also my boost gauge was readin 0 with no - vacumn pressure again that has been corrected now with boost showing however this is slightly less with OEM on i would boost to about 0.8 max now 0.6. Can soneone who knows tell me do I need to adjust the nut somemore or do up somewhat?

Does anyone else has a Forge Actuator and what's your setup is, i.e. amount of threads?

Thanks very much

Not too many run uprated actuators due to rod bending torque at times
Could PM John (CupraMVR) as i know he runs one on his LCR and works at awesome gti too so is quite knowledgeable

"why do people fit actuators without knowing why or how to set them up or having the equipment to know how to set them"

- Very Constructive !

Because poeple need to fit one because the OEM one is shot maybe!!

Perhaps you might be able to share some of your experience and help people that might not know something you so obviously do!

After making adjustments things are running much nicer now definitely a much more solid boost with the Forge Actuator.

I have vagcom perhaps you can give me some adivice on how i might be able to use it to find out if i need to adjust the actuator!

Well Ive fitted one and its by far the best thing ive done...Im running Uprated Rods And a Yellow Spring with 10psi static Pressure and its immense...

Im guessing You have a boost gauge? Unplug the N75 and use the gauge to set to 6psi ...Or If yours is remapped and Peaking at say 24psi tune the actuator so its touches 24psi....

Are you running are Green Spring?

I have a forge actuator but setup will be different as urs is stock int it? And mine, dannys and johns are stage 2+++ whats the reason u went for 1 if urs is standard?

Running stock at the moment but thinking of a stage one anytime now, but not sure whether to wait until I put a 3" pipewerx Downpipe, sports cat and cat back on, is it worth me getting a stage 1 before the pipe change?

I have an apexi cone, 007 green spring and the actuator (green spring) on her at the moment. The boost is alot tighter and alot more solid thats for sure and definitely performs a whole lot better than the standard ever did.

I have a boost gauge, it's boosting to 0.8bar (11.6PSI) and pulls like a train, I just wanted to make sure I had it adjusted as right as possible.

I get a little chatter since the 007 was fitted and only when i'm driving and boost comes on slightly and back off as if the deisgn of the 007 isn't weak enough to give at such a small pressure but again unsure what might be causing this, this was happening before the actuator went on btw.

Am still unsure what preload is though, I'm assuming this where the wastegate is closed and 2 mm of pressure i.e. doing the nut up to push against the shut waste gate preloading the actuator, not sure though can anyone expand on this?

LOL, you could have bought a replacement actuator for 1/10th the price of the shiny forge kit. I bought a 1bar actuator for my hybrid for about £20

Best way i found to setup an actuator is to connect the actuator to a mechanical boost gauge and a bicycle pump, if i wanted the actuator set to a certain PSI i would simply pump air to the actuator until it started to move, depending on the pressure it took to move the rod i would adjust the rod lenght accordinly.

Danny, Why did you fit the forge one?, i see some peeps fitting them thinging it gives them more boost, it does, but they end up killing there turbo or the engine puts a leg out of bed.

I bought the actuator to hold boost more throughout the rpm range and see my logs with my manifold and current setup I maxed out my injectors by 4% on a stock k04?
See the last few pages of my thread for logs...

Is there actual documented factual data available somewhere then that proves beyond doubt fitting a forge actuator results in bent conrods?

Thanks for the setup info m8. Simply I fancied trying a forge regardless.

Seriously, its not the actuator that will cause problems, its the setup of it.

Don't take this the wrong way but by your last comment i would suggest you get someone in the know to set it up, that way you can have piece of mind.

Why not give it a go, its a good piece of kit, but if you are unsure of the setup in anyway, just get someone to do it for you, its an easy job when you know how.

Are you tyring to tune it or just replicate the setup of the OEM actuator?

Would be nice to know how to setup it up for my own knowledge tbh, can someone explain preload?
