im not sure what i meant actually dude, i swear i had some logic behind it earlier but iv had a few beers tonight an forgotten
:p

what ever it was the point, behind it was that the loss wasnt as big deal as ppl were making out, and making it sound like being 4WD was actually a hindrance rather than an advantage

i think the main problem is the fact that ppl rely so heavily on RR results and the majority will only want the fly figure

different rollers different losses..one place might say 20bhp, another might say 50bhp on the same car. if no-one really knows the actual loss between 2 cars..1 which is 4WD, the other FWD, then a fair difference cant be estimated

and then ofcourse theres different testiments

1 person who's spent over 3/4k modifying their ibiza says they done this to the evo, then someone with a fairly standard car says they done that

who do u believe...cos ofcourse these threads are alot more believable when its "i raced my mate in his fq320"

by no means am i sayig any one is a liar, i dont find it hard at all that a modified ibiza could pull away for a standard evo. the weights of each car speak for themself

but at the end of the day...the Evo is a rallye car, and how many rally stages are there in the world that dont have any bends? it dont take a rocket scientist to see that the evos main strength is straight line performance...

yes they dont have an amazing amount of power,
yes they weigh a fair bit,

but its also one of the most agile chassis's around

Track ability was never questioned, by me anyway. That much is obvious. I mean the Ibiza is just horrible handler.
I would love AWD but admitedly probably is more of a hinderence in these 70mph rolling cases.

yes but that was the original point i was trying to get at i think
is dragging from 70-100 really a true sign of a faster car? i dont think so

if it was a question of 0-130 and the ibiza won, then fair enough, but i very much doubt it would tbh
still people are not going to be doing this on the road (i hope), so here 70-100 is a nice example of power to weight, but as said, thats not what an evo is about

Purely going of 0-60, 0-100, 0-130 figures is a bit pointless really, for the most part, there aren't many people that choose a car purely based on how it performs round a track (certainly not many that use their car on a daily basis anyway) they choose their car based on what they will use it for.

Personally, I was originally looking at STi Impreza's..... and I mainly use my car for the the 100 daily trip to work, which is mainly motorway. Maybe a bit childish I know, but I wanted a car that, should anyone have a go, I would be able to put up a good show on MY journey's.

This being said, the Cupra R is the faster car for the journey I make everyday..... but I know that the STi would be better off the line, round the twisties and arguably on a track, but I hardly use those kind of roads/track anyway.

The above also applies to this thread, in certain cercamstances, their Ibiza’s is probably the faster car for what they use it for, but not in ALL areas, but then I think everyone knows this.

I hope I explained that ok ;)

you sound as though you went through the same thought processes as myself when it came to choosing your car. You are spot on when you say you must choose a car to fit your circumstances. I test drove STi,s, and an Evo 7 when looking for my next car. Don,t get me wrong they are a great driving experience and i was particulary swawing towards the Evo. However, when you take into account your purchase, running and maintainence costs the LCR made a lot of sense. I know now i made the right choice and with my current spec delight in showing the so called "superior performance cars " a clean pair of heels.

Modded Ibizas are very annoying because pound for pound they are probably the best performing small hatch on the road, i should know because i am surrounded by them round my way.

Point being, in the situations mentioned above the Evo was not the quicker car. Track/circuit racing isn't mentioned.
It doesn't matter to me that an evo could go around any circuit quicker than myself. If I was a track deamon I certainly wouldn't have bought an Ibiza  as the post above mentions. Circumstances.

I had a play yesterday with the new bmw m6. He is a friend of a friend. The first two runs we were totally equal from second gear to end of the fourth. I was really schocked and couldn't belive he didn't pass me. The next few races we tried he got by 2-3 cars length to around 120mph, but my motor was already pretty hot so it wasn't the best performance. I am waiting for aquamist installation so i can race him again, and will post a video when it happens hopefully :)
