Good luck bud hope she sails through, yeah these cars are not great for jacking up, a few yrs back i bought jacking point inserts at least now I can jacking in a area that does no damage now. Just Google them mate.
If your jacking the front i would jack on the subframe morning bolts as that is about the strongest area. And the rear i just jack on the beam. They are both designed to take the weight of the car so a jack with a bit of rubber to stop damage and help stop sliding.

My MOT is tomorrow. Had a mobile mechanic replace the ball joints and track rod ends so shouldn't fail on those at least. Plus needed 4 new tyres so an expensive January. At least I got £70 off and a £50 Amazon voucher out of ATS.

Today I had to fix the side skirts that had flexed out under the jack, so took them off, cleaned them up and replaced all the screws with new. All straight and neat again!
Some where on ebay you can get stainless steel version of the screws. They are a posi drive but won't rust and easier to remove than stupid torn cr4p

lancashire.
I had one trashed screw but managed to jam a torx bit a size bigger into it and managed to turn it a mm at a time after a spray of GT85.

They will go always go back straight, but you have to remove them completely and refit. Just trying to do the flexed end doesn't work so some reason.
I got them replacement screws and the inserts off AliExpress there not expensive, i needed them for side skirt and inner wheel arch covers as i used bigger screws but the plugs will break in the end, if you go bundle deal and pick 3 items is free postage

Yeah, the Chinese ones seem just as good as the officials.

Car passed the MOT! But with some advisories.

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):
  • Nearside Outer Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot severely deteriorated (6.1.7 (g) (i))
  • Offside Outer Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot severely deteriorated (6.1.7 (g) (i))
Service is due in 1000 miles, so will sort at the same time.

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
  • Offside Front Track rod end ball joint has slight play (2.1.3 (b) (i)) (As expected as only did one side)
  • Nearside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i)) (Will have to live with this)
  • Offside Rear Brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (1.1.14 (a) (ii)) (Eh? The discs are 6 months old)
  • Nearside Rear Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))
  • Offside Rear Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c)) (An annual tradition. These are on every MOT!)

Oh not the rear brake lines, they can be a bleeping f to do lol, well mine were not much room when ur on your back. Good luck if your doing them, braided upgrade Planetmoebel incoming maybe?
Haha, yeah, rear brake lines are a proper pain, especially when you’re stuck on your back with no room to maneuver! Been there, done that, and swore a lot. If you’re tackling them, good luck—it’s worth it for braided lines, though.

Braided indeed. Will have to wait until summer though, no chance of messing with the car when every hour it fks it down.

Don't you have to remove the fuel tank to do these?

Car developed a weird noise from the accessory belt, "Uh oh, one of the pulleys has gone" I thought.

Got the front end up in the air as I was swapping wheels and checking bolts etc (was running far too little camber) when I saw something coming off the subframe.

Good news! The pulleys aren't about to bite the bullet and leave me stranded! Bad news, it's developed a power steering fluid leak (the sound was the PAS pump running a tad dry). I can live with that
