Hopefully I won't get embarrassed by what I said. It's the VW mib2 standard that has a variation on it that came to light when people were getting Inrix to work on it.

Delphi units were the issue. Same mib2 standard map but how it reads the contents different so the fix didn't work. That fix only works for the old Here Maps version. Mib1 is just that coding change of TMC group from 15 to 14. So mib1 you get new maps plus working TMC.

What you'd do in anycase as a controlled experiment put your existing working map on the new card and check. Having passed that move over the 2023 map.

Seller got back, apologised said he did the ad based on the info he gets from his supplier., said send it back for full refund. I said I'll send it back but can we to a "swap" for one of the MIB2 cards...So we'll see....

I'm "doing" 3 cars ATM.

Mine which is 10yr old MIB1...so as you say whatever MIB2 card I get, I'll remove the files & place my working VW 2020/21 maps & DBinfo file on the card to make certain the card works.....then delete those from the card & install the 2023yr maps (which I have already downloaded from mibsolutions), & do the DBinfo part number hack...

I'll have to whip out VCDS to do the 14-15 change in the TMC group....

Then I'm working on a mates MIB2 golf from 2018yr..so I did a maps update from the VW website which went all ok....as we chose a 9GB UK/EU maps bundle as he has a 16GB card.....MIB2 unit needs a firmware update having put the SWtrain number for the unit into mibhelper....I have downloaded the latest FW from mibsolutions also...

I also have a mate with a 2020yr T-cross with MIB2 to update the maps & Firmware on also!....will be busy!.....

Thats both my friends cars maps updated, still need to do firmware for them, but that'll be sorted out next year.

Seller has sent me a v20 "AS" card so should be a 32GB.

Anyway, the "hack" to get the Audi 2023yr maps to work on my old MIB1, please correct me if I'm wrong:-

DBinfo file from the Audi 2023yr maps in mibsolutions:-

PartNumber1="V03959803RQ"
PartNumber="V03959803RQ"
ApplicationSoftwareVersionNumber="0106"
SystemName=" ECE 2023 "

**********************

DBinfo file from my current 2021yr VW maps on my OEM 8GB working card:-

PartNumber1="8V0060866M "
PartNumber2="5G0919866BD"
PartNumber3="V03959807NT"
PartNumber4="5F0060884CJ"
PartNumber="8V0060866M "
ApplicationSoftwareVersionNumber="0094"
SystemName=" ECE 2020/21 "

*********************************

"Hacked" DBinfo file to read????:-

PartNumber1="8V0060866M "
PartNumber2="5G0919866BD"
PartNumber3="V03959807NT"
PartNumber4="5F0060884CJ"
PartNumber="8V0060866M "
ApplicationSoftwareVersionNumber="0106"
SystemName=" ECE 2023 "

Card turned up "v20 AS".....& yes its a 32Gb card. So copied all the files across from this card to my PC (as a back-up) & then deleted them from the card. Then copied my good working 2020/21 files from my working 8GB OEM card to the new card....place in satnav...& sta nav won't read it & flips a message on the screen (will need to photo it) of screen...

So compared the info again & its all exact as per my working old copy....& the cluster size is the same at 32k on both cards!...

if I can't get the new card to work with the 2020/21 working OEM maps!..

I might have to revert this card back to how it can & test it on my mates 2020yr T-cross to see if it works on that!....

Did you press reboot the first time. Long hold. May be not.
The first time i did.....also I had the SD card lock slide closest to the gold contacts & in the lock position...the second time I didn't do a reboot & I had the card in the "unlock"...so yeah, go figure as they say!...

So new card with mibsolutions 2023yr maps on....it works!...took a couple of attempts & ages to load, but it did it..& I know its the newer one as my mates place is now there!..it wasn't on the 2021yr maps!...

Now this is with the SD card in its unlocked position..will have to try in "locked position" tomorrow...

The mib2 workaround always takes slightly longer when first put in. Possibly similar it goes off and works out stuff. Mib2 is the FeC so the story goes so you end up with another FeC in the unit for that release.

The lock / unlock it probably wants to write to the card... stating the obvious. Mib2 high always does this if you don't lock the card, writes a reference file to it.

Still you got there. Probably most people leave it unlocked when they insert it so it never came up.

I'll report back after I try a few other things..but at least my MIB1 now has the Audi 2023yr maps on it!....Once I'm happy I'll try the traffic hack (14-15) with VCDS...

Good news & bad news....

Firstly the £35 eBay new VW v20 "AS" 32GB card with its maps deleted & the mibsolutions 2023yr Audi maps with a hacked DBinfo file placed on them & the SD card ident in the "locked" position...WORKS!!...on my MIB1 satnav (non-pro). I did a drive to a place which is a new housing development about 20mins drive away, & it now shows & the maps work etc.!

Whipped out VCDS & tried the TMC change.....& got confused...as I've looked at various threads on here & other sites & what I have doesn't match......or am I mis-reading the info?

Module 5f,
Adaptations,
Channel:- IDE05111-Fee based traffic information (TMC)
Existing stored value = 3

I also had a look in the long coding but nothing "stood out"....

I was in a slight rush, & didn't want to mess anything..so I may have over looked something!..

I use Obdeleven. There is a TMC group 15 which it will be on and needs to be shifted to 14.

These are PCBBCs instructions

Under “Select control module” press the “Select” button

Press the button “5F Information Electr.”

Press the button “Adaptation - 10”

In the “search” box type “TMC”

From the drop down select entry “IDE05111 fee based traffic information TMC”

Enter the required new value, check the “reboot” checkbox at the bottom of the window, click save and confirm with OK.

---

Now if you have connected services which I don't think mib1 has then a different code goes in.

Again credited to PCBBC

XXXXX-> 32782

XXXXX would be the mib code with connected services change to 32782.

We say XXXXX since some vary by brand within AVG.

So if it says 3 try 14. These are preset groups of TMC providers across Europe. For mib2 you loose Finland which is no big hhardship. It could be you are on a slightly different group. Basically they are mappings of different providers into groups.

It's been reported here and on the Briskoda site that 14 works with mib1.

Don't forget to save and reboot.

Thanks for that..I had seen the top way...., & nice to know I did exactly as per... but as mine was "3" I was like WTF??.....

Ok I found a key post. I thought I was going crazy and imagined it. It's always 14 on mib1 but the VW starting point is 3 the same as yours. 15 on Seat and Skoda.

The end point is always 14 for mib1. Basically the start code, 3 in your case clusters assorted TMC providers. Another code clusters another set. Trafficmaster can be in more that one eg. 15 as well, but Inrix is in 14.

What happened on there was that the posts were about mib2 and TMC. Campaign to get VAG to fix it... well that wasn't going to happen so that's pickled with the two posters that worked out the solution too fix it based on the work of Australians with their import Vag cars not configured for the Australian system. That splintered into two, mib2 standard and mib2 high. Bridgeage got it working with mib2 standard based on the older Here Maps and using the mib2 standard toolkit to wash it through that. PCbbc on mib2 high with just vcds coding. Then Pcbbc being a programmer took Bridgeage material and recompiled elements of the map files, to create a file copy solution for the mib2 standard which avoided vcds coding. Both solution are on the link below. In the midst of this a mib1 user said I've done it with just vcds coding as the mib2 high. Again here on this thread, I passed that on and it was found to work. It's only some VW and Audi mib2 standard units where there isn't a solution. Pcbcc then went on to sort the French out where Trafficmaster had similarly died.

Casual readers this only applies to mib1 and mib2 high without connect services. Mib2 standard needs older maps to get it to work.

This is it, I read loads & understood it, but it was why is mine currently on "3"...anyway found a thread on the MK7 Golf forums (I am a member in this under the same username)..In this post (no.16) here has a nice breakdown of the codes etc, might be useful for others.

I've seen that one and his rabbit holes 🐇 just make 3 to 14.

They are clusters of TMC providers, some are free and some are paid. It might be with that coding you have crossed the boundary and getting something free. 🫢

When they leave the factory they are set up one way with one brand and with another in that clustering with another brand, but it's 14 for you now to get it to work and for all brands mib1, mib2 high without connected services and 32782 with connected services on mib2 highs. Mib2 standard and not a Delphi then you follow the workaround for that link above. The two guys on Briskoda sorted it all out using the experience of Australians on VAG cars that were never set up for their TMC provider. I sat back and let those two sort it out injecting my two pennies worth whilst others were just sending emails to Vag, waste of time on that one. That was obvious.

I've done the coding & reboot..will have to see what happens but it appears to be working...as it said "there are no traffic updates" even after it refreshed itself...

Need to drive to a place with traffic....thats the trouble living where I am!..

Another interesting fact is that VW don't state in the manuals with the car which slot for the SD nav card. I've always had it in slot2...so tried slot1 & nothing, didn't recognise it, couldn't "safely remove" either via the source screen...

Then realised the source screen has by default slot2 icon with wording navigation...even if you have nothing connected to any source!.....So slot2 always for nav SD card on a MIB1 (non-pro)

If it's like mib2 there is a function which is show traffic reports on the navigated route or on all routes. Without putting in a destination it will show all reports. You can use the right hand twiddly knob to zoom to see and again if like mib2 there is a zoom screen button to get it back in after having a look around. London or any large place is good to look for reports. The road agencies use Inrix so they have registered road works shown and also delays. Works a lot better than Trafficmaster ever did.
