Right, to add a little bit of positivity cuz something good should come out of 2023, the results of my (not so extensive) research.

Digging about on Autodoc I saw that the wheel hubs from the Mk1 and Mk3 Leon (sub 120bhp version as they run a beam axle) have the same internal diameter. Could it really it be that easy? So, I bought a used rear stub axle and took the hub off. Does it fit on the Mk1 Leon stub? Yes... and no. It does physically fit but the ABS sensor is too far forward so no go.

Then I looked at the Mk3 stub and thought "I could always do an adapter plate, sort of like PCD changing spacers". So I offered up the Mk3 stub to the Mk1 axle...

It only bloody well bolts up as is!

This means if you want to run 5x112 without ABS or the fun of adapters, bolt on a Mk3 Leon (or others) stub axle and you're a good way there (there's brakes to line up etc but such is life).

Now, I do want to keep the ABS cuz it's a technical challenge so an adapter plate will be necessary as the Mk1 Leon has the sensor on the stub axle but the Mk3 doesn't.

The conversion probably won't be done till this time next year but it is progressing

I always feel like a bit of a ******* when you do an experiment - like you're going through the expense and frustration, but in the end I end up reaping the benefits - but do keep on.

One of these days, we won't be able to get the structural parts and so anything that might end up with us being able to keep things going with newer parts is only going to be a good thing.

I wouldn't worry about it, I do these experiments because I like the challenge 😁

And I share it partly to keep me motivated and partly because I think you guys might be interested. If someone benefits from it then all the better.

Oh, and there's stuff in the works which I won't share just yet but... yeah, will be fun

Front carpet on the driver side still wet after the recent rain, so I'm starting to think it's coming from the front, maybe under the scuttle. I've not touched the door in a few years, but I can't imagine it's coming through that. Have put a towel down with a weight on it to see if it takes on water - if it does, looks like I'll be checking the wiring loom box and the pollen filter.

Foam is shedding from the headliner too from the look of things. I'm very close to just binning the car. Would be nice to do some fun stuff instead of taking the doors apart and getting covered in gunk that's rotted away under the wipers.

Does anyone know if the pollen filter leak ever makes its way into the driver's footwell? Nothing in the passenger side, so I'm leaning towards loom or driver's door, but I'll still do the pollen filter with butyl while I've got the scuttle off.

The pollen filter housing is a very common leak point so worth sealing up.
Also check to see if all the rain deflectors are in situ as when these are missing you can get water flooding into the filter opening.
The rubber around the removal piece of the scuttle needs to wrap around the filter housing properly, I see it many times where its not been reinstalled correctly and this can cause problems as well.

I sealed one of the rear doors last year and I'm pretty sure I did a good job, but now it's leaking again out of the blue.

The water just gets through a molecule sized gap it seems, so the simplest possibility of the usual door seal might be the cause.

You're not the only one pissed off Ian. I noticed the coolant going down and there's a leak around the coolant sensor. Again.

New one ordered. Again.

Again, any liquids in these things seem to find a way through.

It is so frustrating. My car cover & antenna base got ripped off in the gales last weekend, so my car has been left exposed...it's now getting wet inside 😔
I'm awaiting for a new antenna to arrive but it never stops raining!

Btw this is the MK1 section, you may want to skip over to the MK3 folks for helpful advice 👍
