Ok, ive reduced the resolution down on my video camera on my phone so will try again on boxing day. Dont seem to be able to do anything with the vid i already have.

As for youtube, ive just tried to get an acount set up and it wants my google password. No idea what that is, so thats a non starter.

Depending on what phone you have, should be able to reduce the resolution of the video you have with an app

That's a lot of grief right there. I tried to do that a few months ago, but when I came to take the allen bolts off for the EGR cooler I just couldn't do it because I couldn't see them properly and the thought of rounding off those was a bit too much.

If you manage it, I'd seriously love to know how you get on and how you do it. I'm probably massively overthinking it, but stripped heads in the back of the block... I could do without that.

Your EGR is much cleaner than mine was, by the way.

Ok, the fut fut.
Ive caught it. Ive just got back from a run after fitting new discs yesterday hoping a bed in session will sort it and it hasn't. When i got back it was making the noise and ive managed to catch the noise as clear as a whistle. But the 14 second clip is to large to upload on here. I need you all to listen to it to help me figure it out. Can send it via email? HELP!!!!
Upload it to WeTransfer and post the link

Genuinely, if you don't have to do it then don't. I'd save it for when doing other jobs in that area, like I'm doing timing belt, water pump, water pipes, downpipe etc.

The tough part is getting the turbo to EGR cooler pipe off. Took me a while of using a 6mm allen key, lots of penetrating fluid, a wire brush and turning it, backing off, wiggle back n forward, spray, brush, turn again etc etc, all the while listening for the creak of doom.

Other side of it was me using a 12mm (should be 13mm but it had rusted that much) 6 point socket on a breaker bar, lots of spray again. But that was less hassle.

The EGR cooler ended up with one bolt rounding off but the manifold bolts were easy so because I didn't have water pipes connected I pulled the whole thing out as one.

Suffice to say there will be a couple of bolts not going back in 🤣

Timing belt done but not 100% sure the timing is correct. The first rank is going to be nerve wracking.

Why the hell did I think this was a good idea?

Right now I'm just trying to work out if I need to. When I cleaned my EGR it was probably only 30% blocked, but of course it's going to be hard to say what the ports look like in the manifold on the engine side.

Right now the most important thing for me is checking the vacuum lines and making sure the TIP is on properly. When I drove to and from my parents' house for Christmas, I was getting 10mpg less than normal, so with my MoT in a month, I want to get to the bottom of that.

It never ends...

Know that feeling very well. Good job I enjoy spannering (I know, I'm weird) and have space enough to do it.

You've seen my inlet manifold on the EGR side, here's the port side (bottom vs cleaned, top)

Not that bad tbh. Not fussed about valves as it wasn't running bad in the first place.

I don't have the space, but I do like doing the spanner work - but that has led me to places I'm probably not qualified to work or I'm a bit out of my depth. It just really gets to me the amount of money some people spend at garages when if they have the time, it's an easy job, and I haven't really worked out where to stop.

The car still drives though, so I can't have done too much damage over the years.

I'm just looking at tools to do the nearside front wheel bearing while it's on the car. I find the biggest problem is that I'm not as fit as I used to be, so the heavy jobs knacker me out.

Thankfully most of the jobs I need to do right now are in the engine bay, but we all know that's not without its problems, and those jobs always mean I end up with raw knuckles - even if I'm just topping up the washer fluid.

Not that i noticed.
Ive changed the discs but the pads were only a couple of months old so still using them. Pad edges shamphered and ceramic brake grease used on sides and rears of pads. Everything is clean and free moving.
The noise gets worse when ive done a few miles in it. Had just done about 15 miles of normal driving (had my missus with me).
Can hear it most when on roundabouts.
