Does it boost any better without the plasticine pipes?
Just been out walking the dog and having a ponder.
If you are running the standard system and possibly untouched since new, you're probably losing boost.
I reccomend at least replacing this valve.
I did the suck/blow test and the old one was leaking so WILL have been losing pressure in the inlet manifold.

Yeah I just re-used the existing one without thinking. Can't test it at the moment though because I've got a coolant leak from the crappy plastic flange on the side of the block!

I hope you got decent money for it.
Are you going to get another MK1 or do you fancy a change of scenery?

Youll miss wondering every time you leave your house weather or not your car will let you in or out. And the boating lake in the passenger foot well every time it rains.

Walk tall mate 👍

I guess i could get a 6 speed gel insert.
I'll see what turns up.
The standard knob on the car is a little ropey as is the steering wheel. Both need addressing at some point.
Just glad i didn't pay too much for it.
here that does look nice though mate! Maybe go with a stealth 'hidden' 6th gear look...! How much if you dont mind asking? D

Pretty annoyed at DPD today for telling me my shock absorbers will arrive today, only for me to find at around 2.30 that they hadn't even made it to the depot.

Also annoyed at my girlfriend for parking the car under a tree and now the car's covered in sap and pollen.

Also annoyed at the person who decided it would be funny to put two chocolate hobnobs on the roof and now the seagulls have paid the car a visit.

Although I did spend some time trying to find the source of my knocking sound and found that it could be the fuel filler neck. Can anyone else have a check in their car to see if there's free play in the neck? If I give it a wiggle, it will knock on something and am wondering if that's what the noise while driving is. It isn't suspension noise, that's for sure. I'll be buggered if I know how to actually stop it from knocking if that's what it is, but at least I'll know. Failing that, I'll be ripping out the interior trim to see if any wiring harnesses are slopping about.

EDIT: Just watched a handy video on YouTube about replacing the filler cover door, and noticed that when you remove the door, there's a long drain pipe that comes out with it. It doesn't seem as though that's attached to anything and so I'll take it out tomorrow and see if that affects anything too...

Well, it's definitely blocked and it could do with a clean, so it's a good chance to take it out and give it the once over.

When I drove the car home yesterday it was almost impossible to replicate the sound - sometimes it happened when I was braking, sometimes it happened when I turned, and sometimes it happened a few times in quick succession, but it didn't happen every time I braked, or every time I turned. That makes me think wiring rather than suspension.
