Guess what happened to mine

Ah man... I'm convinced that if I so much as breathe in the general direction of mine, it's going to snap.

What did you have to do to get it out?

It reduces engine and gearbox movement, which means you get less chatter on hard acceleration, and it stops things moving around in general. I've heard some people describe it as one of the most effective mods you can do. I think it's just an all round tighter, more responsive drive.

Not that I know - I haven't got them in yet!

I bought the red Powerflex diesel bushes, as I've got a diesel engine, but I've heard some people with petrol engines use the diesel ones because they're less harsh.

There's a video on YouTube I think by Humble Mechanic where he sticks a GoPro under the car so you can see just how much the gearbox moves and how much work they actually do - I'll try and dig it out.

Cheers bud, very enlightening, maybe on my list of jobs now.

I’ve ordered a micro ball valve. I’m going to attempt to drill tap and install this on the bottom of the tank

Im thinking drain tap with some small section of hose that goes down through the under tray to the floor.

Im looking at petrol lawn mower taps atm but not sure how itll cope with water running through it regularly.
Can also get a plastic one but cant see that lasting long either.

Bought a secondhand mount, new bolts and a new subframe.

But don't worry, just take it easy like with the wishbone bolts and it should be okay.

Looks like there are a few subframes knocking about, and it doesn't seem that hard to fit the new one - just bolts that need changing etc. At least I'd have a good reason to change the steering rack bush while I was in there. I didn't realise it was so hard to get to without dropping the subframe...

I'm spraying the bolts with penetrant every time I pass the car right now, so hopefully I'll be OK.

I guess if you are not worried about performance and you know your pcv system is in perfect health then indeed dont have a catch can , save up for some E10/E15 proof fuel line instead.

Hardest part of a new subframe is fitting the anti roll bar. I was going to fit a new one anyway as it got an advisory for corrosion.

You'll be ok 👍

X2 on the roll bar bushes being a total cow.
Fitting the new genuine VAG 23mm bushes did add to the vocabulary of the neighbor's children.
The standard bolts won't start in the threads, but if you start with longer bolts to get the rubber to set, then
quickly swap to the standard bolts you will get there.

Also changed the engine oil & filter.
Lidl electric dipstick oil sucker, with wider sucker tubing, total win.
Except I posted it on the wrong thread. Doh!

It's not exactly what I was looking for, but it definitely gives you an idea. You don't want it to be rock solid, because it would be much too harsh, but at the same time, any movement is lost power and will give a more vague feeling.

The purple powerflex bushes on the dogbone was one of the best ones i installed. highly rate it, once i fit my subframe and rack bushes everything will be polybushed lol

I've just spent the past hour watching YouTube videos about people fitting dogbone bushes and none of them has said anything about snapping the bolts - but come on here and it's like they're all made of porcelain.

I know you guys all think I'm obsessed or something, but I'm bloody terrified.

I'll do it tomorrow and they'll probably just come straight out, but now I've said that...

Sprayed the offside control arm with Hammerite today and a bit of the brand new one on the nearside that has already started rusting after two months on the car. The old one was pretty rusty along the welds, so gave it a good sand before cleaning it up and spraying. A few runs around the holes, but it's not like anyone's going to notice.

Bushes will go in tomorrow or Wednesday, but I don't want to put them back in the car until I get the ball joints out. Probably made life harder for myself taking the control arms out though...
