Creak/Squeal/Something annoying when pulling away

Hey all,

My first post on here, and it's a problem I'm afraid!!

My nearly 4 year old Mk3 SEAT Leon SC 1.4TSI has developed a squeal/creak when pulling away.

I've done some troubleshooting tonight and have managed to work out that it's when pulling away, 1st gear, having just had the foot brake applied.

It's always had a creaky suspension so I had assumed it was something to do with that. However, a colleague at work said he's heard something similar on a car and the clutch went soon after!!

26,000 miles, original brakes still on the car, no replacement parts or mods.

I'm thinking of buying the car at the end of its PCP contract in a few weeks, hence why I'm flapping about this!! I don't want to buy it and something major goes wrong shortly after.

I have a recording but I'm not allowed to post links yet. Perhaps I can message it someone who can post it on my behalf please?

I'd be grateful for any help or advice please.

I have some strange noise at low speeds as well, but mine is when releasing the brake. PM me the link and I will post it so we can compare.

Here is the video, not same as mine though.

Thank you. Do you have a video of yours? Mine has stopped now, I'm thinking it could've been the brakes sticking.

Just an update for anyone that's interested in this. I took it to a local VAG specialist, Volks Autos. They said that the squeal/whatever noise you describe it as is a known fault on the Golf and Leon and is something to do with the clutch release. To solve it would be a new clutch. I didn't ask for TPI numbers or even bother going into details as frankly I'm not keeping the car with such issues!
I'm a year out of warranty so presumably SEAT won't be interested in helping me.

Unfortunately the clutch is considered a 'wear and tear' item for the purposes of warranty, so it wouldn't be covered in any case. All Seat would do (within warranty) would be to strip it down for inspection. This would be chargeable, unless in their opinion, there was a fault with the clutch. All in all its a big risk to take coz if they find nowt wrong ( in their opinion) you are left with a rather large bill. Out of warranty? You've more chance of winning the lottery.

I'm not disagreeing with you but I find it amazing that they know of a production issue with the clutch, they've gone as far as releasing a TPI for it, but they won't fix it.

With regards to being out of warranty, if they knew of the issue with the clutch when I was in warranty, but didn't inform me, would I have grounds to get it fixed for free?

The car isn't even 4 years old, has only done 26,000 miles but now I'm facing a bill for a new clutch!!

In reality, if the issues you are experiencing only affects a small number of cars, even if it's a known problem (assume this is the case?), it's unlikely that Seat would undertake a mass communication exercise to all owners. It would be great for customer service to do this, but would be an expensive exercise for Seat and at the end of the day, they are in business to make profit for VAG and their shareholders. Sad, but true......

As kazand has said, the clutch is a wear and tear item and if the Seat new car warranty is anything like VW's, wear and tear components are only covered for 6 months / 6,500 miles whichever is the soonest from date of first registration, and the clutch release bearing, clutch plate and centre plate are specifically mentioned as wear and tear items under VW's new car warranty terms and conditions.

I think the best you could hope for is for a goodwill contribution from Seat and there's no guarantee of this. You'll stand a better chance of a goodwill contribution if your car has been serviced and maintained from new within the Seat dealer network.

I understand where you're coming from. Obviously very frustrating from my part.

I've ordered the new Leon and I'm awaiting delivery. However, this little saga has put me off a bit. VAG had admitted to it being a manufacturing issue but I'm told won't do anything about it.

Completely understandable to have a mileage limit on the clutch in relation to the warranty. However, like I say this is a manufacturing issue and isn't due to my driving style.
