AirCare states Door, Window or Roof open when they are not

Hi All

Still getting to grips with our recent purchase of a SEAT approved used 2016 Seat Leon FR. Happy in generla with the car, but unfortunately it has already been back for 1 warranty repair (New rear window, demister unit and full replacement of front brakes), and we have just booked it in for a further issue (They couldn't/wouldnt fit us in until the end of April!)

In short - the air conditioning/climate control doesn't appear to be working. I am 95% sure it was working before it went in for its first warranty repair, but i cant be 100%

When we click the setup button on the climate control system, and then enter the "AirCare Clima" menu, it states that a door/window/roof is open - when they are not. The doors are all shut (and when open the dash tells me they are open), and the car doesnt have a sunroof. The windows are also shut.

Has anyone had this issue before? or know of a simple way to fix it that doesnt involve plugging it into a computer. I don't mind it going back to SEAT again, but if there are any simple things i can do at home that might solve it then i am willing to try. The dealership is 90 miles away, so the running backwards and forwards is a pain.

Many thanks in Advance

It would be news to me that a pre-facelift Leon 5F had an Air Care climate control system from the factory. Not even the facelift model had that... they can only view the live values in the BCM for each lock and the sunroof.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. Ive tried to attach a picture of exactly what I am seeing

I can also state without doubt that the little LED light under A/C does not come on when A/C is pressed.

Certainly looks like a preFL as that's an MIB1 screen
I wouldn't worry about the sunroof message, I suspect that's just a generic "car interior isn't a closed system" message
Maybe an obvious thing, but have you got the blower fan switch on before trying to switch on the A/C ? If the blower fan is off, the A/C and the switch LED won't switch on at all

I believe it is a MIB2 unit?

I have attached a different picture (it's not brilliant - I apologise).

Screen has 4 buttons down each side, and there are 2 SD card slots in the glovebox.

The car is pre facelift (first registered October 2016)

Its an MIB1, you can tell by the proximity sensor bar at the bottom of the screen, and the MIB2, which came with the facelift, looks totally different - MIB2 pic attached

Ok, thank you. That's information worth knowing as I was previously led to believe it was a MIB2 due to the 2 SD card slots.

I have experimented with as many combinations of manual blower speeds and temperatures as I can possibly manage.....and it seems no matter what combination I do, the A/C light will not come on and the air does not get cold.

The MIB1 unit with navigation had the twin SD card reader in the glovebox, as does the MIB2. Major difference is the bigger screen on the MIB2, and easily updatable navigation maps on the later unit too. MIB2 also gains better connectivity with Full Link available, giving Apple Play and Android Auto

It's MIB2 6.5"

That's MIB2 8", found in the facelift as you mentioned

The earlier prefacelifts had MIB1 5.8". The later prefacelifts had MIB2 6.5"

Thanks for all the input. Useful stuff for dealing with SEAT if nothing else

So in summary

- The unit is a MIB2
- The AirCare is a known standard fit, and isn't working due to the car thinking there is something open.
- Its possible there is a coding issue?

One final question. Does the A/C work to the same rules as the AirCare, i.e. the doors/windows/roof need to detected as closed?

The A/C should work with doors/windows/ sunroof open.

Hi

Ok, thanks for confirming.

It would appear it's going to have to wait to go back into SEAT.

Very frustrating. This is our first VAG group car, and also the first time I've ever bought a car from a dealer. I've always been a Jap or more recently Ford man (Wet belts have ended that relationship!). Stuff like this I have always been happy to get stuck into, using using things like Forscan to solve the issue. Unfortunately, due to the warranty I'm just not going to take the risk and go and pay out for the necessary programmes to get it sorted.

Double edged sword this warranty!

You can without a doubt have the AC on and the windows open, I had a 2016 FR for 4 years. I think the fact that the AC won't enable the compressor is more where the issue is. All the AirCare system is an automatic closing of the recirculating vent for cabin air when it senses "pollutants" in the outside air. So it looks like there might be more than one issue.

Try manually closing the recirc vent and see if you can enable AC then, or even see if you can hear the recirc vent closing, it could be that is where the issue is.

I will have another play about this evening and see if I can find a combo of things that gets it to work, but I am now 100% convinced that all of the issues stem from the A/C system. Why it's not working is the question, and I will have to hand that over to SEAT to sort.

Hi

Thanks again for this input. I've just had another go with the manual controls. If I press the recirculation button, I don't hear anything happening. However, when I turn the recirculation button off again, there is a single knocking noise coming from the glove box area. This knock also happens if recirculation is on and I turn the fan off.

Is that single knock normal?

In any case. Not matter what I do, the A/C will not engage (The little light onto he A/C button will not come on)
