LOL that bloody unpolite woman! :p

OK, let's start by providing some information. How did you exactly manage to wire up the mic? Did you bridge it with new wires or reconnected the existing ones?

Ok got another old radio connector and removed two of the pins with 6" of cable on each.
Fixed these into pin 1 and 7 in the green connector. Block connection (temp to test) to two long lenghts of cable routed thru the car and under the drivers seat. I then unplugged the BT connector. Cables to 11 and 12 cut behind the blue block. Block connected them back as they were and inserted the extra cables to each block conector. So now pin 1 green conector goes to 12 on blue connector. And same for 7 and 11.

So, if I understood correctly, you did bridge the mic with a couple of extra wires. Now, do you happen to have a multimeter/multitester to test continuity in those wires? You know, some pictures of the actual installation will greatly help here.

Got pics on my iphone. But no way of adding them like that.

Yes ive a multimeter. How do i test continuity with obe?

Do you have dropbox or something like that? As I said, it'd be easier to help you if I could see how everything's exactly wired up.

Now for continuity measuring, it varies from device to device, but the option that lets you do that is usually depicted as follows:

Actually i just had a thought. When i got the car the other week and tried to dial out by pressing the voice activation button and saying call etc it never worked for me. BUT if i made a call or received a call people could hear me clearly and that was the old BT unit.

I wonder if this is the same thing.... Ill make a call in the morning and see if anyone can hear me. If they can then something else is going on.

Yeah ive drop box. Ill pull all the bits out in the morn for you and get pics of everything mate. Thank you for your help again. Appreciated. :)

Now that's strange... we'll have to look more into it, looks like. Just let me know whenever you're ready, mate.

Sleep tight.

Yes!!!! Fixed it. Came to me early hours. Because id removed two pins from another connector and pushed them into the existing one that went into the green connector. When i pushed them in id put a drop of superglue at the end to hold them in place. I think the glue blocked the connection. Pulled it out this morn and ripped the connector to bits as it had glued in place. Re made another connector and wired it up. Bingo all working!!!!

Now need to make it all pretty and proper connections. But at least i know now. :)

Excellent news, mate!

So it didn't work the first time because you accidentally isolated the tips with superglue, right? They should have been soldered into the block, not glued, but hey, as long as everything works properly, superglue is alright.

It'll be of great help if you could post some pics of it, mate. Just for the record, you know ;)

Cheers!

I indeed to solder all the joints but i just wanted to get everything working first. A Block conector is easier than a soldered joint to undo if not working ;)

(saying that the super glue was a complete git....)

Anyone got an old green connector for a rns310-315-510??? as mine is in pieces now....

Yup will fine somewhere to upload the pics and then do a step by step.

Hi guys, I've got a MK6 Jetta here in the USA and I'm upgrading to an RNS-315. My car does not have BT in it but I understand the 315 has it built in. My question concerns the mic input. Would you say it's possible to use an aftermarket mic and simply wire it to the HU connector at pins 1 and 7?

Hi there, mate, you're right, RNS 315 HU's do have integrated BT.

However, personally I would not recommend using an aftermarket mic with it, given its wire impedance and caliber differences, you might actually not get the results you expect from it in the end.

Why don't you get the OEM one? It isn't that expensive and you won't get better results anywhere else. Here:

hmmm ok only issue I see here is that the website states:
Suitable for vehicles until 2011 model year

Not suitable for vehicles from 2012 model year

For vehicles from 2012 model year the 7P6035730 or similar hands free system needs to be used

My Mk6 is a 2014. I just sent a question to car systems .pl to see if they have any advice for me.

Thanks!

I don't think that information is accurate since the given part number 7P6035730 corresponds to a complete external BT unit kit (which you totally don't need here), and not only to the mic itself (in fact, no other website that sells these two wires has this indication). I believe you should be fine with that one even thought they indicate it's only suitable for pre 2011 models, but let's see what they've got to say to you about it.

Please do keep us posted.

Cheers!

Hi Just fitted a RNS315 myself today to my Altea.
It replaced a crappy MP3 radio. Everything went well and i had it swapped over and working within 30mins!

I now have MP3 via the "media in" USB port in my arm rest and also can play music from my phone via bluetooth.

Now the only issue I do have is that I don't have a mic for the bluetooth handsfree.

Ive ordered this:
w w w . carsystems.pl/wiring-microphone-3b0035711b-for-vw-rns-315-bluetooth-only,id387. h t m l (remove spaces)

Is it simply plug and play?
I'm hopeing I don't have to carry out any software mods. Also is it easy to install?

Ive also got to install the DAB aerial so will have to run cables at some point which im not looking forward to.(

Any advice would be great.

Edit: By the way I have a facelift 2010 with updated trim if its any help!

Did your car not have bluetooth before you fitted this? If so the mic is already there. If not then its still easy. Just need to add two extra pins to the connector mate.

The aerial was also fairly easy i got a window stick on one. Ran it down the A pillar passenger side and across. Ive a post on here somewhere from when i did it with pics and a guide.

( its early in the morning.... Just realised this topic has a lot of my bits in on this subject. Sure there is another post with more photos on though)

Hello everyone. I have installed the RNS-315 in my USA spec Mk6 Jetta. Everything works, except for the mic at the moment as I'm waiting for the wiring and the mic to be delivered. As soon as I hook it up I will let you all know. There apparently is a kit out there that plugs directly into the back of the radio and gives you a mic. You just have to run the cable up the A-pillar and into the headliner so you can hook up the mic.

I'll post back when the part arrives and is installed.

Hi wonder if you could help:confused:?

I've recently retrofitted the RNS 315 from an RCD 310, fitted the DAB aerial, mic and GPS antenna and coded using a VCDS. All seem to work fine with out much of a problem but as soon as the ignition has been turned off for about 10 minutes the radio loses all my radio presets and resets itself to Dutch. I tried a couple of times to set the language to either automatic or English, but again once the engines off for a short period the radio reverts back to Dutch. Its the same with the radio presets, i'll set the stations i want, then after the engines off the presets that were on the radio before i retrofitted come back. However i can pair my phone using the bluetooth and save addresses on the Navigation and they come back while the ignition has been off so it's left me baffled.

I'm not sure if this is a problem with the RNS315 firmware unit or whether i have missed something in the coding. If it is the firmware i can get this returned for replacement.

My car is a Leon FR 2010 with out the external bluetooth module and has the large white MFD.

This is what i got from the VCDS

Hey,

I've also recently done an upgrade to an RNS-315.

It sounds like the HU is loosing its perm live feed and reverting back to its default. Did you get the unit off eBay?

Mine came from the EU. There seems to be a big market in them repairing faulty ones and selling on ebay! Maybe yours has an actual fault though.

Have you tried putting back the standard HU you had in the vehicle? If so does this also loose its presets?
It could be worth trying that or removing the 315 and powering it up on the bench and see if it looses presets that way.

You are a bit far off or i would have said drop it down to me and we can go through most of the standard checks.
