RNS 315 Retrofit

Hey,

I've also recently done an upgrade to an RNS-315.

It sounds like the HU is loosing its perm live feed and reverting back to its default. Did you get the unit off eBay?

Mine came from the EU. There seems to be a big market in them repairing faulty ones and selling on ebay! Maybe yours has an actual fault though.

Have you tried putting back the standard HU you had in the vehicle? If so does this also loose its presets?
It could be worth trying that or removing the 315 and powering it up on the bench and see if it looses presets that way.

You are a bit far off or i would have said drop it down to me and we can go through most of the standard checks.

Yeah it was an ebay purchase  but was a UK distributor, well at least i think it is.

As for the standard HU i think i may have a problem with that, i dont have the code in any of my owners manuals unless it just drops in and turns on? But when i had the standard HU in before the presets would stay so should it change once the radios have been swapped?

I'll have to pull the 315 unit out and have a go at work.

As for the old unit having a switched or permanent live, would the wiring looms not be the same throughout the model range apart from the exception of the bluetooth module? Or are the pin setup on the back of the units different?

Yeah mine was a UK seller but i think all his stock came from EU...they are good value for money.

Same with my HU, i didnt have a code for it. Just dropped in and worked all okay!

Unless someone had fitted an aftermarket HU the pins should not have been switched. They are the same on all model years....so i dont think you would have a problem there. But when the HU is pulled out you can check them easily. The pin out is printed on a sticker on the HU.

Initially to me it sounds like a faulty HU but worth checking things first just in case.

Well I've taken out the new radio and checked the loom to see if I'm still getting a permanent supply where I should be and all seems ok on that end. As for putting the old unit back in, well as I don't have the four digit security code I can't get past that screen to see if the presets will stay or not. But what's got me thinking even after I've unplugged and removed the new rns315 unit and re installed it's still has my home address saved on the navigation and my bluetooth connection still works even though the power has been fully disconnected. So why does the language default back to Dutch?

Head is pickled with this one

Sorry I took this long to update this thread, I finally managed to enable both, the mic and the Optical Parking System (OPS) at my RNS 315.

The mic job was done at the Stealer's shop, they just bridged and connected a couple of wires directly to the HU's back from the actual BT unit connector, integrating them into the HU's one. Not a big deal, but a big price for the job and warranty.

As for the OPS, here's how I achieved to enable it:

At vagcom (VCDS)

- Module 10 Park/Steer Assist
- Function 16 Security Access
- Move the cursor over the "Enter security access key" field and it will display a key number, type it in and press "Do it!"
- Module 07 Coding
- Press "Long coding helper"
- Select Byte 0 and mark Bit 4 "Optical Ilustration active", then exit that window
- Press "Do it!" to save the new code.
- Module 37 Navigation
- Function 07 Coding
- Press "Long Coding Helper"
- Go to Byte 6 and select "00 Optical Park System & Interior Graphics: Standard (via CAN)" from the drop list, then close that window.
- Press "Do it!" to save the new code.

Cheers!

I know this was posted a while ago but I followed these instructions and managed to enable OPS on my car. I retro fitted an RNS 510 and already had factory installed reverse sensors. Contrary to information provided in this thread, the factory fitted reverse sensors are compatible with OPS.

It's probably the default language on the unit - firmware maybe?

Although it may have been the default language it would never store the selection I had made, same with storing radio presets but would store the details off addresses on the navigation and bluetooth connection for my phone.

Anyway I gave in eventually and returned the unit a week later and decided it was faulty but oddly enough I've been looking about again today for another unit and have one last stab at this retro fit. If I get the same problems again with a completely different unit I think I may have a bigger problem...... maybe.

I don't recall stating they were not compatible, mate... :p

RNS 310 Facia Panel

Hi,

I am about to fit an RNS 310 to my Leon but am struggling to find where to get the facia panel from, can anyone help?

I've spoken to 2 of my local Seat dealers but without a part number they are useless :(

Thanks in advance!

Cheers mate,

Considering your Leon is RHD, this is the part number you need:

1P2 858 071A

Just let them know the right fascia colour to match with the rest of your dashboard (there's three of them, I think).

People who have done this change, does the 315 not have the optical parking system already enabled?

Also someone said about enabling via vcds the navi option or something like that?

I've got everything I think I need now to swap the units over just need someone with vcds to do the changes.

I am about to fit an RNS315 into my 12 plate leon that came with factory BT under the seat. I know I nedd to unplug the original Bluetooth module. Rather than having to bridge the wires on the original unit by running wires to under the passenger seat could I not buy the separate mic and wiring from eBay that comes with a new green plug for the back of the HU and then use that wire to connect to the OE microphone by cutting off the green plug and connecting it to the existing green plug?

What I am trying to avoid is having to run wires down to under the drivers seat if possible as to do it neat will mean possibly centre console and driver seat unbolted and that's more faffing.

Update. I had a retro fit OE 9w7 Bluetooth kit in the garage so I had an adaptor loom, and wire that connects to the microphone. In the adaptor loom there are 2 connector locations, one for RCD radios and one for RNS radios, I connected the mic up to the RNS connector which in the main bunch and not on the long look that goes off to the seperate Bluetooth unit. I then disconnected the original Bluetooth under the drivers seat and job done. Working mic without having to chop into the original wiring.

The hard part is hiding the extra loom! There is sod all space behind or below the radio in the leon, in the gold mk6 and rocco I had had before there was loads of room, I even hid the Bluetooth box in there before behind the aircon controls.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272473295747

That is the loom if you don't want to chop into the OE wiring, search on eBay for 9W7 Bluetooth wiring harness; you can buy cheaper ones direct from china if you want.

I know it was an old post but has any one else had this issue? not sure if mine is doing the same as fitted it but then the car went off to the garage for some warranty work, wife collected it today and the radio was asking for the code again, but not sure if the garage disconnected the battery or not.

More than likely they disconnected the battery. If it doesn't ask for code when turning off ignition that is.

Turns out they did disconnect the battery, put the code back in and it now remembers it when the ignition is off, however the unit is still forgetting the FM presets and last radio station, if you turn it off and leave it for a short while (say couple of hours) when you turn the can back on it isn't on say preset 3, radio 4, it's back to radio 1, and forgets the fact I changed the settings so the steering wheel buttons are switch through the presets

What wiring harness did you use to connect into the back of the RNS as it's an all in one plug with multiple wires. Did you use one already in the car or one it came with cause wires could be in wrong place.

I have that radio and it seems to remember last radio stations etc but it came with the car spec.

The extra loom that I fitted is used when retrofitting the Bluetooth unit to RCD310, RCD510 and RNS510 units. I had that very same loom in 2 other cars and they never had an issue. I will see what happens this morning when I go to work fingers crossed otherwise the unit is going back for a refund..
