Turns out that head unit was broken, so returned it for a refund. While it was out I got to thinking about the extra loom. I had a play and stripped out the 2 wires from the extra loomsngreen plug that it turns out the mic plugged in to and I just added them to the OE green plug in the 2 blank spaces near the middle. Make sure you get the polarity the right way round and job done. You can buy a stand alone RNs315 mic from eBay for about £30 that has the mic (not needed) and the long loom and green plug. Open the green plug remove the 2 wires noting which way round they went and intern them back in the OE green plug. Run the wire upbhe A pillar and along the front of the roof lining to the roof light. Drop that down and plug in the new wire to the exiting mic, job done no need for a big loom and no need to splice into the existing loom.

Now has anyone who has retrofitted a VW RNS315 been able to set the picture of the car when you reverse back to a seat? Mine keeps showing a Passat saloon back end annoyingly even though it's set to look at the CAN for the picture. (Seat RNS units were a lot more money as as rare as hens teeth!))
