Great read and really hope you can see the project through. Hope you don't mind but going to pinch your wheel colour idea as think it looks different and original, kinda goes with the colour of the rear light cluster (in your sig pic).

You're not the first to ask what colour they are as they also want theirs the same but for proper Candy red iwas getting quotes of £100 per wheel as the powder is very expensive and from the US

Since a friend has recently opened a garage just down the road from me i thought i'd push some of the jobs his way
First and most importantly the totally shagged water pump needed to be changed, obviously the belt has to come off so that was replaced too
Once the pump was out i could see the amount of coolant everywhere and by the crank it had settled and solidified into a cake which had to be dug out
The wheel bearing had also become so loud it was louder than the radio so this really needed to be done especially with the up coming trackday
So with 3 people working on the car at the same time all the jobs started and most of things id mentally planned out i completely forgot
I sorted out the heatshield rattle and few other little bits n pieces and assisted with bearing removal then became the teaboy
A few pics i grabbed

Then today had a small issue of the tank pressurising and firing petrol out of the filler cap over everyone/thing, turned out to be the return line and breather were the wrong way round in the rush to get it back together but all sorted now.
Also managed to source a BAM block too so i can build up my stroked engine then sell my low mileage one when the time comes to swap over

Good work mate. Nice to see the jobs getting done :)

Have you not got a fmic? I can see in the 2nd pic down the pipe which connects the two smic's? Just assumed you had a front mount, lol.

I do have a front mount but feel a little bit like a fraud as its not actually piped up yet
I got a 600hp Garrett core from Issam which i mounted up front and due to its nice and compact nature i will be using a different route to OE and doing it all in 1 piece welded pipe, so only 4 connections for the whole thing

Ahhh I see! 600bhp Garrett core = nice!

So I guess passenger side the piping goes straight up and no connection right to the intake mani? Rather than a connection and 2 more like on most fmic's. Should be very efficient that way.

Plan is charge pipe will be extended further forward and dropped straight down (past auxillary belt) which brings it out next to the FMIC inlet
On the other side it will have to loop a little to miss the end of the rad pack then straight up coming out just to the right of the throttle body
I have a weld on MAP sensor boss so this upward run will also double as my MAP pipe too
This shorter route may reduce lag a tiny bit but is being done so i can run an oil cooler in place of the OE passenger SMIC

Awesome! Didn't think of the extended charge pipe route but good plan that matey.
Shorter route will reduce lag for sure. Looking forward to this taking shape with the stroker and all the other bits falling into place!

Such a good idea mate with the fmic pipe work. Really looking forward to seeing it all done.

Great work on the car and sorting the niggles. When you going on track and which one?

TBH I am surprised more of us haven't gone and sorted better pipework because the better flowing it is the more efficient and less laggy the system works as a whole..

I'm sure you could fit the core of a cooler and go to a specialist like Hayward & Scott who Maz used for his Hybrid TDI and get them to route a seriously good bit of hard piping for the whole kit to your exact requirements. Of course, not the cheapest option, but I think if your fanatical about getting the maximum from a cooling system it's a brilliant option. I upgraded my fmic kit because I wasn't happy with it and the car certainly performs better for it no doubt about it. BUT if I was being really picky I would go over to Hayward & Scott and see what they can do after seeing Maz's setup.

I have been saying this for awhile that the routing is massively OTT and have been planning on changing it for ages but always had other things to do as well so never got round to it.
Also having moved jobs just over a year ago i no longer have access to a macdaddy TIG welder anymore making it that much more difficult as i cant spend ages fettling as i could before
This is another bit of DIY tuning (following the success of TED and Jamspeed) Ronin style
Hopefully a landrover garage up the road may have a welder they may lend me

Yeah I totally agree mate I think it's OTT and the routing could be so much more efficient. It does for now but for sure at stroker BT level I'd be looking to optimize all this as much as possible.
Shame about not having access to the TIG anymore but I'm sure you'll manage just fine with some RONING Tuning ;)

Good reading as usual though mate always enjoyed catching up on this thread when I see updates. Keep it coming and all the best for the trackday as I won't be making that one as it's a long old way for us southerners like you say.

Mike, do you have a reel of ali wire for the MIG, i know it wont be as pretty as a TIG'd weld but as long as it doesnt leak it should be good

I think so ill check if not don't know how much it is but the Worcestershire front mount club could split it so we all can use it?
