Well the plan is to get the engine built and in before the leon gets cut
I've nearly got shot of enough of the S3 to attack it with the spot weld drill
Having had all the rear subframe and diff apart, it looks to be about a 1k to rebuild with manual controller, new bushes and adjustable tie arms (will be going for 2 sets of these to try and give as much adjustment as possible due to not being as accurately welded in as if made in tooling)
I'm going to have a stage 2 map put on the car whilst all the prep and rebuild work is done so i can enjoy the car a bit
I will put pics up of getting the S3 rear piece out and prepping though

Another tiny update
Went to inters and had a good look around and chat to some members from here to put names to faces then nearly got run over at the end.
Anyway being as i have been looking into doing this 4 wheel drive conversion i joined another forum (audisport) and flit in and out looking at bits n pieces in there
On there i came accross a guy called scott who can did a group buy on ASN on the porsche caps and gets them at a good price so arranged to get a set at inters
If anyone else is wanting a set i can put you in touch with him
Finally fitted them today after work

Also saw Bill at inters and had a quick chat about popping up to use the welder so i finally get my FMIC mounted and pipework welded in one piece
Even managed to get mildly sun burnt on the sunday?? not sure how that works as it was cloudy or raining most of the day

Glad you had a good one at Inters mate. I couldn't make it sorry but there's always next year!

I've got those Porsche caps they look sweet don't they :)

Looking forward to the progress coming up with the 4WD conversion.

Hi Paul, i did see you go down the strip and heard it go like a scooby about a third of the way down
With the TFSI coils im running a colder plug than OE (a 7 instead of a 6) you'd maybe want to go another step down.
I've also gapped the plug to 0.04" as i was recommended, some may say about the gaps not making a difference but i've taken the advice of someone who knows more about than me and it runs fine
I did mine more as a precaution as the car was still on original coils

Tom, will have to meet at another event sometime (hopefully a drier less muddy one)
There will be a new COD out sometime so i might try to get back on the PS3 a bit more if you fancy it

Cheers mate what's the part no of the ones your using, I will prob just leave the plugs the same as oem as not sure about how I work out how cold I would need them. Was gutted with the strip time I got but I was running road tyres and the coilpack did die. Allways next year but might go to pod on a rwyb day :) what make plugs are you using? Got any links please :)

I got coils and adapters from INA and used the recommended heat range 7 plugs
OE plugs are a 6 but with mapped cars its advised to go a step colder, some heavy modified cars run 8's
I gapped the plugs bigger to run a larger spark as the tfsi coils run hotter
If you have a look in the INA section all the info is in there
I didnt run my car down the strip either as its not really setup for going straight line sprints and would probably be embaressingly slow too being unmapped

After the last month or so of watching everyone else fitting their FMIC's i thought i better pull my finger out and get on with mine as its quickly becoming an expensive tea coaster
So today i thought time to crack on but with the weather being so unpredictable and showers and strong winds coming and going i thought id play it safe and go to work and work on the car inside the factory
So after getting to work and having a mandatory cup of tea i cracked on with the strip down and in no time it looked like this
2012-06-30122154.jpg

I then offered up the cooler and thought to myself this looks small but garrett rate it to 600hp which is more than many of the larger cores
I then fabricated some bracketry to hold and support the cooler in place
2012-06-30133350.jpg

I then had some fun with the grinder to get the crash bar to fit nicely, i'll have to take a little more off at some point so when i make a new lower grille so it doesnt show and i can run widemouth
2012-06-30140119.jpg

I then had a clear up, cable tied the horns up into passenger side SMIC ducting as i cant pipe the core up yet as i will be welding all the pipework into one piece but dont have an ally welder
Hopefully soon i can get down to Bill and get it all welded and in
So i reattached the bumper and being a compact core it didnt require any bumper cutting (yet)

A closer and lower view
2012-06-30155409.jpg

I have to admit gettting the bumper guides unbolted was ar right PITA as i didnt have the car jacked up, so something to remember for next time and also how sharp broken foglight glass is (hence only one reinstalled and lots of blood on the floor)
That should be the hardest bit out of the way now so will update again once working and hopefully with some logs too

Today's job was to actually pipe up the catch can now that i've got my ass in gear and ordered the piping and tee
So i had a trip over to see Phill to drop off a wheel and get some assistance
We started off by ripping out all the old stuff
2012-07-14144429.jpg

After it was all out you could see lots of it was covered in oily residue so leaking but no obvious splits
Also the elbow out of the block had broken up as you see in the pic below
I managed to get the larger parts out but some of the smaller bits off plastic had fallen in and down into the sump so next oil change the sump will be coming off and a new elbow has been ordered as the old one had to be refitted
2012-07-14144401.jpg

The port that houses the plastic block breather elbow which the broken pieces fell in
2012-07-14144442.jpg

So after a bit of cutting and being stabbed in the hand by the stainless braid it was all fitted and in
2012-07-14161123.jpg

There was an after 12 moment of forgetting to block the port under the inlet mani which gave some strange rev fluctuation
After clearing all the faults im hoping the EML wont return and that it was caused by drawing in unmetered air into the TIP from the damaged pipework, but it feels like its driving better already
I'll report back if it cures it but other than that probably no more updates for a while now

Good work on th catch can mate. Right niggly job but well worth it. Like the positioning of the catch can. Might have to look into moving the battery to the boot to free up space like yours

Get that battery out of the bay and you too can run a ridiculously big cone
Does free up a lot of space once its gone
