Haven't got my hands on them yet but will be in the next few days. Not sure what colour, black I think but I'm not fussed as you don't really see them on the Forge kit. I'd have picked black anyway, going to stealth the cooler a bit with a very light coat of radiator paint so it's not so noticeable behind the grille.

OK update, got the discs and pads changed last night. No pics unfortunately as we were pushed for time to get it done before dark but we made it. Ended up putting the last pad in and tidying up the tools and stuff by torchlight :)

The job claimed some more tools too. Last time my mate and I snapped 1x 3/8" to 1/2" socket adaptor, tore a 17mm 1/2" socket apart and ended up with a hangover each. This time we added two broken drift punches and my brand new torque wrench to the pile of broken stuff. Also managed to chip some lacquer and possibly a little paint off the offside caliper because the pins on that side were so stubborn for some reason so it could do with a refurb.

But its' done anyway. Got the car out for a quick run and did the bed-in procedure recommended by Bill. The brakes feel more predictable than before, still very progressive but more initial bite once they'd warmed up a bit. Will see if I have time for a spirited run tonight to bed them in some more.

Good choice on the stealth cooler. Personally think it looks much better for an OEM LCR.

The meaty one's you can see remind me a bit of Golf MK4's with their FMIC sticking out of the bumper = fugly!

Good work on the brakes, they'll be great once bedded in. Should be testing mine hard in a little under 7hrs... :)

Yeah just going to go lightly with some flat black rad paint, it doesn't affect thermal transfer so shouldn't affect cooling, just want it to not look so visible behind the grille.

Re. the brakes, yeah they're definitely a bit better than the previous ones, no idea what the pads were but they had wear sensor cable so defo not Ferodos. They had black metal plates so probably not EBCs. I was expecting terrifying, stand-the-car-on-the-nose performance but it's not like that at all. Doing very hard stops does feel a bit better right enough, maybe need another run on the bed-in procedure and to get some heat into them.

Enjoy your track time :) I'm looking at doing a track tuition day in mine at Knockhill soon. Never been on a track before so fancied a bit of guidance for the first time.

Cheers :) There are plenty faster ones, tidier ones, cleaner ones etc. but it's mine and I do like it.

Pics are pretty straightforward, get yourself an Imageshack or Photobucket account and you can upload pics off your PC or straight off a smartphone. You can get links from whichever site you choose specifically to put in forum posts so the photos appear on the page rather than as hyperlinks. Sure there's a few posts on here explaining it in more detail if you need them, have a search.

Got hold of the FMIC hoses and pipes tonight, hoses are all black. I'm cool with that, they will be hidden behind the bumper anyway - I'd have chosen black hoses for the FMIC if I was buying a new one too, to keep it stealthy.

Also got a pre-trimmed battery tray to allow fitting the MAP pipe, and the Forge turbo to charge pipe hose :) Hopefully I'll manage to get the turbo to charge pipe hose and the battery tray fitted this weekend, I got some stuff to treat and paint the Forge crash bar with too and rad paint for the FMIC.

Your car is going to breathe so much better with an FMIC, great time of the year to fit one and notice the difference in mid range pull.

This is what I did with my TX cooler a couple of years ago, waited to get it in the summer to see if I could feel the difference and I definitely did even on a standard map. Seemed to pull smoother.

Let us know how you get on :)

Cleaned up and painted the crash bar and FMIC at the weekend, ready for fitting :) Forgot to take pics of the crash bar but the FMIC went from this:

to this:

imag0358lv.jpg

Cleaned with degreaser and painted with Eastwood car radiator paint, matte finish. Should be nice and stealthy behind the bumper :) Ordered some JCS HiGrip jubilees for the pipework too, I know a lot of folk say to use Mikalor-style clamps but I've got the JCS ones on the upper boost hoses and they're fine, I had Mikalor style clamp come loose at full boost recently and the hose popped off.

With any luck they'll turn up and I might even have a go at fitting the thing this weekend :) Rang my insurance company today to declare the new cooler and it makes no difference to the policy at all, result!

Cooler looks like new, awesome job that. Are you fitting the cooler yourself? I hate these front bumpers, they come off alright but like to be a pig to go back on

Yeah cooler's make no real difference to insurance I've found which is handy :)

Looks good stealthy black mate, love it, similar finish to my Airtec.

Look forward to seeing how you get on fit it and find the drive after. Might be worth doing a TB reset through vagcom after you've fitted it just to help it adjust.

Cheers, yeah it was a doddle really, just gave it a blast with some citrus aerosol degreaser, waited til it dried then a light spraying with the paint. Only did the front, didn't bother with the bottom, top, rear or the sides of the end tanks as they won't really be seen.

I'll be fitting it myself, yes, with a mate. I've been given a top tip for removing and refitting the bumper easier, I'll try and take plenty of photos while the job progresses so it's documented ;)

Cheers Tom, yeah I'm with Adrian Flux who've been ace so far. I like the look of the black Airtec cooler and was almost away to order one but when this came up at about half the price it was too good to pass up :)

I've got the Forge MAP pipe to fit and a pre-trimmed battery tray too so the battery will be removed for a bit to fit those before doing the FMIC which should clear the ECU adaptions. I'll need to get round to cleaning the throttle body soon too so will do that then. I've also been told recently that apparently rotating the TB 90 degrees can benefit flow into the intake so will maybe give that a shot.

Fingers crossed it stops bloody raining and I get some time this weekend to crack on with this, very keen :)

I've also heard this about rotating the throttle body aids flow due to butterfly angle
But mainly this is done on meth cars as it supposedly it allows the atomised mix more evenly around the mani, not sure how true it is though

Had a quick search on VWVortex and only really found one post, related to using WMI with pre-throttle body injection. The post there suggested that rotating the TB can prevent water ingress into the mechanism. That post was actually in reply to one from robbierolex, known as rsmith on here, he's had a couple of TBs die due to water ingress.

Would be a time-consuming one to quanitify for a non-WMI car like mine. Reset TB, log a few runs with VAGCOM. Remove TB, reset it again then run some more logs. I'll do some more homework I think :)

So small update time again. I replaced a load of small vac/boost hoses with red silicone stuff last year. The brake servo hose kept doing this:

imag0370ey.jpg

Tried to adjust it, trim it etc. a few times but it kept pinching like that. Friday before last I was a bit drunk after a night out and at some point discovered and ordered this:

imag0371y.jpg

Only remembered about it the following morning when I checked my email and saw an email order confirmation from DPM Performance. I initially went "oh f**k, what did I buy?!" Didn't even know Forge did one of these, was about £20 so probably expensive for what it is but not breaking the bank. Means the hose doesn't kink and I swear the brake pedal feel is a little better for it, although it hasn't affected actual brake performance. Here it is fitted:

Hoping for decent weather tonight, might manage to get the FMIC fitted :)

Cheers dude :) yeah it came up locally when someone was breaking their LCR so couldn't really miss out. Will see what it makes on Wallace's rollers next month.
