Clutch Update
After some extensive research and a lot of thinking I made a decision on what clutch option to go for. I decided to go for a up-rated clutch and a single mass flywheel combo. Although my flywheel is most likely in perfect working condition I didn't want to risk it and thought I might as well do it properly.
Que the Awesome GTI Clutch kit (
Awesome Heavy Duty Sprung Clutch & Solid Flywheel - 6 speed 1.9 TDI / 1.8T). So far I have only seen great
reviews of this kit. There are cars running over 400lb/ft torque with this clutch and they are all loving it hence why I believe it is the perfect option for my needs. When I spoke to Al at Awesome he gave me a lot of reassurance with this kit. There are three bonus sides to it also:
- Price: a very wallet friendly £625 for such a heavy duty clutch
- Feel: seems that it is not far off from the standard clutch feel so using it as a daily should be all good
- Noise: according to them and the reviews there is no chatter noise like usual single mass flywheels (not that it bothers me if it did)
There were a few people asking how much the flywheel weighed. Well after waiting a week for it to arrive I weighed the flywheel which is 10.4kg. The car is booked at the garage tomorrow to have it fitted so once I get the OEM dual mass flywheel I will weigh that also to see what the difference is.

Whilst enquiring about the clutch I also decided to see about getting a forge quick shifter at the same time. Awesome did me a very nice deal for both so thought I might as well
I know a few people with these and they all rate them highly.
Hoping to get this fitted sometime over the weekend if I get a chance. Got a few other bits to do also, like fitting my LED sidelights which are currently just sitting in my bedroom!!! Car also needs a clean as its a absolute state, hasn't been washed since November..............yikes
