Cheers for the info El and Rich! :)

El - those LED bulbs turned up today, well when I say bulb(s) I mean BULB! Only one and the packet looks to already have been opened!! Not impressed. Need to have a word with hids4u about this!

Thats a nightmare mate, pleased to see you got it all sorted in the end. Glad I could help:)

t0m the PCV system is prone to splitting, removing it gives you peace of mind ;)

Yeah it just wasn't my day but oh well. Got a new non return valve on order so when it comes I will clean it up a bit more. Cars running good, had a good drive tonight and all is good. Will scan it to be certain.

Its probably in my head but the car feels so much better. Think I had a leak for a while based on how it drives now!!

Good news mate. One of the hoses on mine had a split in the PCV system, the car definately improved once it was all removed.:)

Cheers lads!

Looks like I've had an ordering fail! Lol.

Luckily only one of mine is nearly completely dimmed out (the ultraled one's) so I'll swap that over today and have a mix of both if they aren't too different in colouration and brightness.

Paid another trip to my friends at Good Rims today to get the alignment checked. After we did the CV boot joint I felt the steering was off so wanted to get it checked before I burn out the tyres like last time round. He was pretty shocked to find how badly off the alignment was. After some tinkering the front wheels are now pointing in the right direction.

Also thought I would add how pleased I am with the Ferodo DS2500 pads with the EBC disks. Last time round when I changed the discs and brake fluid I put a set of Mintex 1144 brake pads on based on some recommendations I got. I always loved how they performed once heated up however the niggles were that they took ages to heat up, would grind against the discs when cold on light braking (I refrain from braking hard when cold as much as possible), the amount of dust they produced and the annoying squeaking noise when braking lightly.

This is why I decided to switch to the Ferodo's again. I was really happy with them when running them with the OEM discs and once again they really are the top choice for these EBC grooved discs. All of the niggles I mentioned above with the Mintex pads are non existent and the braking is spot on. Car comes to a dead halt in no time, no fade and simply builds you with confidence when they are called upon. If anyone is thinking about upgrading their brakes my recommendation would be:

  • EBC Ultimax discs
  • Ferodo DS2500 pads
  • Motul RBF660 brake fluid

Dyno Videos

Just noticed that I have never posted my dyno videos. They are pretty bad quality as they were done on the iPhone, but you can really hear the difference in exhaust note.

Dyno Video 1 - standard with some breathing mods i.e. silicone hoses, air filter.....

Dyno Video 2 - stage 2 tuned

All I can hear are those hefty fans at AMD on the first video. Not any more thanks to my 'not so quiet' exhaust :p

Forge DV Service

Last couple of days I have been doing little bits and pieces to the car which I needed to do.

First up I purchased a new non return valve as the one which comes with the car within the PCV system is a 3 way valve so you have to block off one end = ugly looking in the bay (yes I am slightly anal with how it all looks under the bonnet ;)). Managed to get it all done and took the car for a drive along with a scan with VAGCOM. However the scan showed the 'Check DV' fault.

So today I thought it was about time I serviced the Forge DV, they recommend doing it regularly but I haven't done it since owning it a few years back. I purchased the DV service kit a while back so had everything I needed to do it.

Forge DV, service kit and a spare spring just in case it is needed

Totally cleaned everything

I then re-greased it all and put it all back together and re-installed back onto the car. Turned the car on and scanned once again with VAGCOM, faults all gone :) Took the car for a drive and wow, DV's got louder and now when going for a full blast and changing gears high in the rev range the car as a whole seems to run better and harder. Job well done me thinks.

Another quick scan just for peace of mind when I got back and..................

Cheers bud. That's the issue really, trying to get everything done and at the right time. Try and prioritise and go with that. I'm thinking the clutch will probably need doing sometime soon as its the OEM unit on a stage 2 tuned car but at the same time I have a few other bits I want to do

If you do change the clutch are you going for an uprated one mate or a new standard one?

I'm the same really, mine seems ok for now, seems like I will wait for it to break before I prevent.. not clever but then I hardly drive it at the moment so I want to spend the money on other things lol.

Feels perfectly fine right now, more of a worry that it's a tuned car on a OEM part which is likely to give up. I'm a bit anal with these things and like total peace of mind. Would definitely wait until it gave up but no harm in preparing to spend for it I guess. I'm not sure whether I'd up-rate or keep standard. Depends on how badly the OEM wears when we take it off and examine it

Good call mate. Many people rate the standard one providing you're not doing trackdays in it all season long and driving like a d!ck.

Be interested to see which route you take bud.

To be fair it's done very well touch wood. Done several years of drag runs with some of those being at its current tune. I hope to track it next year so will see how it holds up then. I don't drive it like a twat, I tend to cruise on the streets as it just ain't worth the hassle if something happened due to stupidity. Will let you know what I opt for when the time comes mate
