Did drive it there last time but I did give it some abuse when I went to warm it up the 3rd time lol. He reckons they calibrated all the time? Can't see why it would have been a problem because it's a Monday near by neighbours would have been in work and even with me going out +3dB's it wouldn't have made it no where near as loud as Performance Car Action Day!

Don't tell me the rally cars at Rally Day were below 100dB's!!!?

Tell them your maximum revs are lower than they really are.... Then under noise testing it's a bit quieter. Small problem if your then too loud on the noise testers on track though.

thinking of a red bull can stuffed with sound deadening and then places up the tail pipe then remove it once it's tested

you would think they would let it go through for the sake of 3dbs as that could easily be gained

You don't quite understand the decibel scale?!

3db is double - so 100db to 103db is twice as loud. They won't let that slide, since the council will take their circuit licence.

People might not like the sound man but he keeps these circits open. People buy new houses next to a track and then complain about the noise, sad really :(

few things:
combe are monitored for noise by the council, and are mandated to keep it below the levels, on all bar the few "approved loud days", of which track days are'nt
their operating licence is at risk if they dont keep noise down, all thanks to neighbors who complained when moving next to the circuit a few years ago. (they nearly closed, and did loose F3 from the circuit as a consequence)

3db(A) is in fact a doubling of sound pressure as its a log scale. 103db(A) is too loud for sure..

The exhaust changes and gets louder with use.. as the packing expires and gets blown out. my ibiza starts with fresh rear silencer packing at 89db(A) and after a few races approaches the 105db(A), at which point I repack the silencer and it returns back down again. Exhaust when used on track get louder as they wear and heat/blow out their packing.
Atmospherics also play a part... cold damp denser air vs hot warm air, effects noise, but I suspect your issue is your silencer packing, and you have been too marginal on passing previously and just tipped the wrong side.

I converted by rear silencer to repackable by cutting a rectangular hole in it, and making a plate to cover it which overlapped by 10-15mm, and riveted the section back down once repacked. Merlin sell packing pillows for about £12-£15 I think.

good luck

Merlin do a roaring trade on the bolt on silencer add on's on track days..

I myself carry two different ones, one from Merlin and one which is a db killa tailpipe I had made. Made a 5db(A) reduction for ref

Thanks Bill, I trying to source a dB meter as we speak to check myself. Since Coombe I did Rockingham and the car hasn't moved since really, so I'm shocked the wadding as gone after 3 sessions at Performance Car Action Day & 6 sessions at Rockinham, if I measure over 100 myself then I will gp about sorting it if it's under then I will just do something to make sure it's quieter for the test and then remove it.

The silencers there wouldn't fit because of the oval tail pipe I have :(

When I took the car out for the spin before my adventures to Castle Coombe last Monday the car developed a misfire now and again, turned out that the plugs to the Ford Coil Pack were coming loose. Once pushed back on the car was perfect until the vibrations made it loose again!

So I contacted Magnecor to see if they would make me some leads. I needed the Ibiza cylinder head plugs and the Ford coil pack plugs on the leads that are the length of the Ibiza ones, so an email and a few chats on the phone later I get these;

What about changing it to a down turned exhaust?

Yesterday I fitted Magnecor leads (pics to come) and took the car for a spin.... misfire sorted and **** me the car is quick through the lanes!

Did a noise test on the car with a meter that is used in my old man's work place for environment noise while at work and it excepted in the court of law. And guess what..... cold engine rev'd to 4500rpm I had 96dB's

Warmed it about while ideling for 20mins measured again 94 & 95dB's I was getting, only time I managed to get over 100dB's was when I rev'd it to 5000rpm!

So I know have a choice, I could do Llandow on the Saturday 23rd and know I defiantly get on track or hold out for Castle Combe on Monday 25th and try there again! But this time I will drive the car up and hope that gives me a better chance but with Combe they could fail me again and I would have missed out on a trackday for the weekend.

mmmmmm what to do??

The car is going up to OSE again tomorrow to have the correct rear quarter windows fitted and to have the inner door skin cut out and the crash bar in the door removed..... yet another diet for the snot!

Had enough of opening my boot with the wire cable to disconnect my battery while it's parked up so I've just ordered the following;

0 AWG instead of the 4 AWG I have now

Anyone have crimpers for these that I can lend?

And my birthday pressie off the missus!

Even better if they are, would rather solder! But there are types like these in work on the 3 phase for the cnc machines and they crimped.... copper termials so should be able to crimp them.

EDIT: Just looked on the web site, suitable for soldering or crimping.... mmmm which one is best to do, crimp on the vice or solder????

Just emailed Performance Trim & Carbon Mod's for some off cuts. Going to remove the panel for the mirror adjust switch and electrical windows and replace it with a carbon fibre sheet for this cut off switch and my alarm L.E.D.
