Hi guys,

I thought i would try and clear this up for people who are thinking of trying to get a flip key. I've included the step by step instructions again (they are identical near enough to the ones gaz put up when he created this thread) I just want to thank all the people who have put posts up on here to help us noobs.

You will need to get your key if you have one starting 1JO 959 it will operate the boot release, if you choose a key with 1KO 959 it wont (if im wrong with that let me know) i tried both keys on my car and only the 1JO worked the boot.

The MHz doesnt make any difference as 434MHz is backward compatible.

To program the key you need to do the following:

1. Switch Ignition ON and leave the key in the ignition.

2. Mechanically lock the vehicle using the Drivers door using a second
key.

3. Using the remote control press the Unlock button once, and the horn
will sound once.

4. Wait 6 seconds and press the unlock button once to activate the coding
procedure. The remote control will now be programmed.

This is the procedure i followed to program it to my car.

To build the key you can do the following:

If you open the spare key you will need to look for the transponder. As Stu put in his post it is down the bottom in the little alcove.

SpareKey.jpg

Be careful when trying to remove it as i found mine to be glued in. To get mine out, i had to cut the side of the spare key up a little to get a scalple in to remove the glue.

This is what it looks like once its removed:

Put the transponder into the little hole on the top half of the flip key and sercure it in otherwise it'll just rattle around. I personally put a dab of blue tack in. There is a slightly lighter end to the transponder, i dont know if its required to be, but i would advise that end to go in first (closest to the blade) only because thats the way it comes out of the spare key.

Close the key up and bingo your sorted, now you just need to get the blade cut.

My local Timpson's did the cutting for me and did it free of charge as they dont guarentee it'll work.

If they do screw it up you can buy top halves of the keys dirt cheap like this one off eBay (its the one i bought)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=290325530512

i hope this makes things clearer without the need of reading the whole thread again. (if any of the previous members want me to delete this let me know, i dont want to tred on peoples toes)

Just gonna quote this to bump it to help people out!, nice guide though :)

Morning gents,

I recently had my car stolen(house broken into and car keys stolen).
So I have no master key, I have broughtfrom eBay a flip key with 1jo serial number. I asked the seller if it had a virgin transponde and he couldn't guarentee it.

I've had they key cut and it now works the central locking.

I phoned my local seat dealer and explained the above and said can you recode a transponder or does it have to be a new one. They said not a problem it can be recoded.

Got there and they took it tried it and come back and said this key isn't compatible.

The key I have matches serial number shown on here that work.

Are they lying and I need to buy a new transponder and code it from new. If so where do u get them from

Any help appreciated guys!

Sorry for any bad typing on the iPhone.

You can get a transponder from Hickleys or via doing a search on ebay - for £11 you can ket a new flip key blade that comes with the transponder loose inside. TBH I found Hickleys to be expensive on postage with cheapest carriage being £5.95 plus item.

So do you think that is my problem, the transponder being eith not there or not a virgin one?

Thanks.
Transponders can't be recoded. So, you'll have to get a fresh uncoded one and get a main dealer/auto locksmith to code it for you, or buy one yourself and sort it via some software.

BTW Shouldn't your insurance company have sorted this all out for you?

They would have if I made a claim, which would of meant 750 excess and loosing no claims bonus. The only thing I was out was a key so decided not to. The car was reovered fine and throughly checked by my mechanic.

I will buy a new transponder and take it back to them for another 33quid.

Can I get the skc code without taking the car to the dealers?

£750 Excess! OUCH!!!

It is possible to obtain your SKC via dongled cable and software, but from what I've read in this thread it's not always a dead cert it would work?

TBH getting another transponder and £33 to code it might be the best answer. Plus, if it's main dealer at least you'll have comeback if anything goes wonky. Good Luck.

There's a small screw under the badge. If the badge won't come off so easily, how about heating it up carefully with a hairdryer to soften the glue? PLS don't blame me if the key melts like a cheese single :)

I've tried using an hairdryer but it still wont budge! I was using a screw driver as well to try and prise it off but i slipped and scratched the key :(

It's because you need the key cut to code it.

Cos you have to lock the car manually with your flip key :)

I found a guide in this thread somewhere that was posted and it said to use the standard remote key in the ignition and then the dumby key that i stole the transponder from in the door and just press unlock on the new key and it should assign it without being cut? Is this not true? Also how hard is it to change the case if i buy a new case off ebay ?

Thanks :)

I have just spoken to seat who quoted 90 for a spare key with no remote buttons, cut and coded. I only wanted this to butcher for the transponder. I'm sure I read on here somewhere someone was quoted 30 odd quid.

So can anyone advise what transponder I should purchase from hickleys, going through this thread on the iPhone is pretty difficult!

Any help appreciated

TBH I'd phone Hickleys if I were you. People (including me) will try to help you but Hickleys will be able to give you all your answers in a 2 minute phone call. I'm sure they would be pleased to help you find the absolute best transponder for your car's key :)

Here's a link to Hickleys Transponder Page

PS I've had a look on their website for you and there's loads of different types. I'd take a guess at an AKTP2 but I'm in no way sure. I don't even know what model or year of car you have so even taking a guess is nonsensical :)
