I don't deliberately try and spin my wheels, but occasionally it does get given a bit too much juice on take off, or like today, when i had to change down gears on a wet hill becase some numpty decided to almost come to a stop.

but it often makes this god-aweful thud feel. does anyone elses car do this (ie. it's something with the design of the car and will just serve as a reminder to give it less beans til i get the hang of the car more)
or is it something wrong with the mechanicals of my car that needs to be looked at?

it's a 1.6crtdi sport running standard factory 17's

My Leon FR '57' does this, just the TC working!

Quite alarming at first though, you think you have bust the engine mounts or something

ah fairy ****. glad it's nothing serious. =o)
and yeah, it's bloody alarming, i've been thinking up all kinds of stupid explanations for it 'cos i didn't think i had traction control!

My MK5 1.4 sport Ibiza didn't have traction control. I'm sure it has to be specced as an option unless they changed it for MY10 cars? I'm guessing the thud could be because of new tyres spinning and then suddenly getting grip? As you say, you didn't purposely make it wheel spin so for that fraction of second it did spin and then caught grip and made a thud noise :)

Danny.

Hmmm. Me thinks thats incorrect. My Ibiza is new, well June 09 and it doesn't have TCS as standard. It's an optional extra. Mine is an SC Sport, considered quite high in the standard spec of things.

 Just been scouring all the brochures I collected when planning the purchase of my Mk5 Ibiza, 1.6 cr-tdi Sport and checking, Seat's site, Parkers etc.. Can't find a definitive answer either way but I didn't think that I had TCS on mine (Oct '09) either. Where's our tame Seat man, he'll know!

Booted my '59 plate SC Sport from the lights in the wet, Spins all over the place. No TCS that I could notice.

However the '09 plate Altea which does have ESP & TCS does sound like the suspension is falling off if you really abuse the 2.0TDI spin up the front wheels :p

Hmm, strange, i definitely didnt spec TCS etc, as i had to chose between that or cruise control, it's an Oct'09 car

I'll try and take it out tonight and see if i can find anywhere safe to do some research,
i'll make some notes and try and get some videos of it to see if it helps diagnose the issue under controlled provoked conditions rather than occasional rapid pull out of junctions where im concentrating on other things

The Electronic Stability Pack (which includes the XDS) is an optional extra as i remember it being a grumbling point in several reviews that sch an important safety feature wasn't standard spec

A quick read of the brochure suggests TCS is standard

And because preventing an accident is the best safety feature of all, the SC comes equipped with the newest generation Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)* and Traction Control System (TCS)

*Optional on S, SE and Sport, Standard on FR, Cupra and Bocanegra

Given that the * is after ESP but before TCS I figure TCS must be standard!

Yes I read that and what you say makes sense but I can't find any reference to it anywhere else.

I've sent a message to Canonman who should be able to answer this.

After an exhaustive test tonight, i have come up with the following conclusions:
1. The car park i tested in is too small and too slippy to get a 0-60 time in
2. My car doesn't have traction control (or if it does, it's unnoticeable no matter what gets thrown at it)
3. I can't seem to reproduce the clunk under any combination of revs, start type, wheel turning etc
4. I suspect therefore that the clunk must be caused by the combination of wheelspin and bump/pothole type road imperfection.

i have found that i only get a small clunk now when what i assume is the tc kicks in where as the first time it was more of a BIG clunk, if it helps your testing the first time i had the steering at about half way and i was sliding.

sounds like you had fun with your testing any ways.
