Interesting discussion. I can only comment on my own experience of going out in a CR Hybrid
Ibiza compared to Ian's and my own Turbo Dynamics hybrid/JBS04. If I refer back to the PM I sent you CupraMillo...
CR hybrid units use the CHRA from an RS6, the biggest wheels in the K04 range - but Mark acknowledged this is purely because he can buy the cartridges in at a very good price and customers generally demand the biggest wheels possible.
The JBS04 uses the next wheel size down, but these are modified (trimmed and lightened) for better spool up etc. Over the phone Mark agreed that, flow wise, the fact that the wheels are *slightly* smaller will make no real world difference as the turbo will only flow a finite amount of air anyway.
The deciding factor for me was when I went out in Benny's CR hybrid, and then out in Ian's JBS04 - the exact same turbo as mine. It was instantly noticeable how Ian's felt like a much more aggressive and stronger turbo - though I didn't know if this was just down to the map. Having now had mine fitted and mapped by Bill (Ian used CC3) - even Bill himself agreed that these turbos are more "lively" than the CR units he has dealt with to date at least.
That said, the air flow figures I'm seeing match Benny's like-for-like, running similar mods. Therefore they are clearly producing similar power - it's the WAY in which the power is delivered by the TD hybrid that I like - especially coming from Revo Stg 1 where it kicks all the power in at once.
Bottom line: I honestly think the Turbo Dynamics hybrid has a noticeable edge over the CRT in terms of aggression and spool up, though they both flow similar figures. All depends what you're looking for really, though I remember feeling slightly let down by the CRT hybrid.
This isn't intended to spark up an argument over "which hybrid is best" - purely my own perception based on my own experiences
I was lucky enough to get my TD hybrid at a very good price so if it works out a lot more expensive that the CR turbo then it's not an easy decision.
