IE rods and bearings have arrived - woohoo! :funk:

I have everything needed to do the bottom end now, so will get cracking on it next week. By the time I've put the new rods in I should have everything else I'm waiting on to finish off the head and get it all built back up again. :thumbup:

Yeah, will get some this weekend.

Head is nearly finished and ready to be rebuilt, the new ferrous carbide cutter I got made short work of removing metal around the inlet ports. All the valve seats and chambers are all 100% clean now, all the ports have been smoothed out with the inlets left rougher than the exhaust. (I'll get pics of it this weekend) By the time i've lapped all the inlet valves in the new exhaust valves should be here, so I can then rebuild the head with new stem seals.

OK here's some pics of the work I have done to the head, everything from just cleaning to smoothing and reprofiling the inlet entrances, removing steps in the casting, etc. etc. (the head is not fully clean yet, won't be until the valves have been lapped in, then it gets a final clean before re-assembly).

Very close to the head being finished now, once the Supertech inconel exhaust valves arrive I can get them lapped in and the head back together.

ive done the same with my exhaust ports rob got them to a mirror smooth finish...Will be doing the inlet 2morro but i read that you roughen up the inlets to let fuel optismize... Not smooth them to a clear finish..

Looking awesome though

Yeah, I've left my inlets rough.

Nothing much to report at the mo, started to clean up and lap the inlet valves into the head, once the new exhaust valves are here I can get the head built back up. Once the new piston rings are here I can get cracking on the rods too, so it will all happen at once!

Oh and I've decided to keep the baffled sump and fit it before trackdays next year.

Here's 3 pics of the inlet valves that I have been cleaning up, pretty obvious which is before and after! Coarse abrasive buff for the underside to remove the carbon deposits and a carbon steel brush to clean up the topsides of the valves, both on the Dremel.

If you're ever doing stuff like this - make sure you wear gloves, eye protection and a dust mask. Little bits of carbon fly off all over the place and the valve itself gets hot, so be careful!

Just wondering seeing the carbon build up on the valves.
Shell (Optimax and V Power) always quote there products as cleaning this/stopping this.
Would be interesting to see what colour these valves would be on a Shell petrol run car.
Mine has been 100% Optimax and now V Power but hopefully shouldn't see my valves for a while

Remember my car had one previous owner for the first 2 years so he may have run supermarket junk fuel for 2 years before I got it.

The coating on the top came off easily compared to the carbon on the underside! Cylinder 4 was tough due to the oil burning. Thankfully I don't have to clean the exhaust valves as I have new ones to fit, just have to lap them into the head before fitting.
